anyone upgraded to it yet? Any issues?

I'm starting to get prompts to upgrade every time I open my laptop, but I have recollections of a previous new version (Windows 10 maybe) that was an absolute nightmare when first released.

YABU - it's fine, upgrade
YANBU - leave it for a bit, glitches still to be sorted

No idea, but similarly I keep getting prompted to upgrade so I am following with interest.

Smile Glad it's not just me

My work laptop is windows 11, no issues so far!

NeverDropYourMooncup · 17/12/2021 15:51

Once it's downloaded (which really slowed mine up whilst it did it) and I'd clicked upgrade - which took ages, so don't do it when you know you have to use it fairly soon - I haven't really noticed much of a difference other than the task bar changing a bit.

FuzzyPuffling · 17/12/2021 16:22

So does it look and feel like Windows 10? (I hate change for the sake of it)

NeverDropYourMooncup · 17/12/2021 16:36

Pretty much. Give me a moment and I'll try and upload a screenshot.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 17/12/2021 16:39

Here you go - it's just small changes on the menu bar.

Windows 11 can be rolled back to Windows 10 if you don’t like it or have issues.

I updated mine a couple of weeks ago, I wasn’t keen on the user interface (pretty much because it was different and needed getting used to)

I did have a problem with intermittent microphone & headphone issues. One or the other would work. I managed to resolve those with a manufacturers driver and forcing installation of that version.
But on fixing sound I came upon a new problem, my webcam stopped working - reinstalling the driver ‘fixed’ it but then the ‘new better’ privacy controls defeated me.

With privacy controls I could disable the camera, or change which software has permission to use the camera.

I could successfully turn off or on the camera, but no software could successfully use the camera. They would get static if the camera was off, or a denied crossed out icon if turned on. The crossed out camera icon indicates that there is no permission - whether I granted permission or not, and no matter how many restarts, driver updates, config changes etc

I gave up and rolled back, then have Windows 10 again running with no issues

My desktop computer (assembled at my own expense when I had to start working from home) isn't compatible with Windows 11.

I'm sure I can live without it for a year or two. I don't want to have to go back to working on a laptop: my eyesight isn't up to it.

itsgettingwierd · 17/12/2021 16:44

Ds upgraded his.

He then had issues with it recognising both his monitors and had to uninstall and re install that.

He was really pissed off Grin

ThinWomansBrain · 17/12/2021 17:07

@FatOaf - plug the monitor into your laptop!

thanks for the responses everyone - I'll set aside some time to do it and test everything :)

Cripes...since I use mine a lot for online singing and talking I think I'll give it a swerve for now.
Thank you OP for the thread and to everyone else for all the comments.

I'm just bumping this thread to see if anyone has anything to add as my laptop keeps prompting me but I'm reluctant. Anyone had any issues with updating and then using Chrome (I don't like Edge at all) ?

Did you bite the bullet @ThinWomansBrain? If so, any regrets?

ThinWomansBrain · 10/03/2022 19:16

No, happily still with windows 10
Have just got a new laptop, which is happy with windows 10 as well

I'm sure my laptop is being deliberately slow and whirring a lot in order to encourage me to update Hmm

Lookingforatimeslip · 10/03/2022 19:41

I upgraded today to windows 11. Used it for an hour where it was slow and then seemed to freeze and become confused and I decided to revert back to Windows 10.
