Posting Xmas cards to people you see.

My Dad just phoned to tell me he's driving to the postbox to post our Xmas card.

  • He will drive past our house to get to the postbox.
  • I am coming to see him later today, and he knew this in advance.

There is no postbox within walking distance of his flat, so he gets in the car everyday, but I am somewhat bemused.

I did suggest he gave me the card later, but he's already put the stamp on, "and thought it would be nice to get a card in the post".

AIBU to find it infuriating and wasteful, or I am a miserable scrooge?

Gosh, you can’t do anything right by some people these days. You are being unreasonable and sound spoilt. No doubt if he didn’t send a card to you at all we’d get a thread moaning about that too.

I have no strong feelings about Xmas cards either way, but now he's said that I will take a card up to him today.
I would only post a card to someone who I didn't see and whose house I wasn't driving past on the way to the postbox though.

YANBU

It never made sense to me why you would send a generic Christmas card to someone you are going to see anyway. If it’s some type of Christmas picture of the family on it, I understand but it seems illogical when it’s just some standard card with a standard Christmas message and names of who sent it when it just ends up in the recycling bin.
