According to twitter Sunak has gone to California to spend Christmas in one of his 12 houses - is this accurate?

The nurses on our intensive care wards also worked hard at school, got into university etc.

Unfortunately our society doesn't see fit to reward them with any fruit for their labours, so they can't make any investment decisions at all with the low pay they receive, let alone wise ones.

Spectre8 · 16/12/2021 16:34

Actually its his wife who is the one who has the most wealth not him. So its him who is the richest.

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 16/12/2021 16:34

@MullinerSpec

Well he worked hard at school got into a good uni did a masters and then got a job at Goldman Sachs as an investment banker. He and his wife have/had businesses of their own, so enjoying the fruits of their labour. Frankly its what's people of Indian descent do they work hard and save and make wise investment decisions.
Maybe a couple of peaches are Sunak's but he's mainly enjoying the fruits of his billionaire father-in-law.
littledrummergirl · 16/12/2021 16:40

Isn't he living in number 10? I think BJ is in 11? Allegra is godmother to his kids. He is in this shit show up to his neck.

Aladdinsmagiclamp · 16/12/2021 16:40

His wife is the daughter of a billionaire, so I am not surprised they have 12 or more houses. He is a lucky man.

DeepaBeesKit · 16/12/2021 16:41

Oh and "wise investment decisions" lol. This shit makes me laugh. DH works in private clients and when you already have money, the options available to you to invest it at high rates of return simply aren't available to joe public with his spare grand. These schemes and funds have minimum investments that prohibit all but the most wealthy accessing them. DH gets allowed to put a bit of his own money in as an employee and it's a joke, you get 15-20% p.a. on most of them.

Staying well out of the way of the current shitshow, so he can pop up all fresh and fragrant as the Young Pretender when the 1922 eventually shows its hand and gives Boris the heave-ho.
That is perfectly possible.
Twizbe · 16/12/2021 16:56

He's staying out the way while Boris is ousted and then will put himself forward for leadership.

Theresa May did the same during the Brexit campaigning. She kept well out of it ready to step in when David Cameron left.

Of course he is.
givethatbabyaname · 16/12/2021 17:24

Does he really have 12 houses?

PartyPrawnRingGames · 16/12/2021 17:30

What an absolute arse, can't believe he is out of the country at such a time.

Youaremypenguin · 16/12/2021 17:36

Apparently he's on his way back to UK tonight.

justasking111 · 16/12/2021 17:39

Gove vanished before he made a play for the top job I remember

SenseSphere · 16/12/2021 19:54

Didn’t John Major go missing when Thatcher was on the ropes? I think he said he had toothache.

Same thing, her Indian family worked hard.
Made sure their daughter was educated.
Made sure she married someone worthy.
If they have 12 houses they and their families worked for it.

luverlybubberly · 16/12/2021 20:08

Rishi is on his way back

He's hiding to avoid the shitstorm coming of no furlough/grants for those affected by current isolation, shielding or likely lockdowns.

Last time he got away with "only" excluding 3 million people from proper support. He knows he's not going to get away with excluding 30 million people (i.e. number of workers), and will let one of his minions deal with announcing/explaining no support packages this time.

Badbadbunny · 16/12/2021 20:14

It's what billionaire families do.
Tealightsandd · 16/12/2021 20:16

@SenseSphere

He’s hiding so he doesn’t get tainted by the Boris shit-show, and then he can swoop in all shiny and unspoilt when Boris finally shuffles off.

Thinking about it - he lives in Downing Street too. Why didn’t he know about the post-work piss up?

Rishi Silent But Deadly...

12 houses? Well no wonder he doesn't care about the public health housing and homelessness emergency...that he helped make worse, through his inflate the bubble and cost the taxpayer billions stamp duty holiday (the holiday lost the taxpayer about a billion, benefits to pay high private rents cost billions, and housing homeless families costs billions).

He might be dishy but the job is Prime Minister, not beauty queen.

The knives are out for Boris. He's hardly doing well...but who comes next? It might seem unimaginable but worse absolutely is possible (and I don't just mean Rishi).

This.

There’s something depressing and ugly about the way some people worship money and use it as a measure of worth.

Ah well, I suppose it’s the world we live in. Personally, I don’t think I could cope with twelve houses, one gives me enough anxiety.

This ! As one of the 3 million my heart goes out to these others who are now likely going to be hung out to dry. The lock down that isn't really a lock down. I'm not surprised he's keeping quiet.
