Headaches and sugar

I get headaches a lot! Since I was a teenager about 4-5 times a week. Sometimes there’s no rhyme or reason, other times the usual triggers will bring it on like perfumes, period, alcohol and especially very sugary food/drinks. I’ve been for lots of tests there isn’t a medical issue. I am just used to it now after 30+ years

Anyway on days when they are particularly bad and normal pain tablets don’t help except for OTC codeine, I will eat chocolate and sweets, drink regular Coke or hot chocolate. Everyone I know think I’m crazy but it makes perfect sense to me. I can’t enjoy those treats when I’m well as there’s a big chance they would cause a headache so I have them when I already have a bad headache. That’s not unreasonable right?

I haven’t tried it myself but have been told soluble aspirin in Coke helps with migraines.

YANBU my Nana's home remedy for a headache was to eat a sugar lump.
I would also recommend drinking a pint of water.

As many headaches are caused by dehydration or low blood sugar it makes perfect sense.

I have found dramatically reducing sugar completely had helped with my headaches (chronic migraine sufferer here). I found my blood sugar was all over the place and for me that triggered a migraine. I can't say yabu or yanbu, it's more a question of discovering if binge eating sugar on headache days may actually be contributing to headaches long term.
