To ask for a hand hold??

Firstly I'm sorry for clearly posting in the wrong place but interaction is needed and the health board seems quiet.

I'm a 34 year old woman, 4 kids plus lots of losses owing to endometriosis and an autoimmune disease.

In the last 3 months my periods have gone haywire. Bleeding in between cycles, after sex and at times, what comes out is frankly disgusting. Black, sludgy thick stuff.

I have an almost constant period type pain very low down that peaks in intensity around the random bleeding.

I plucked up the nerve to call my doctors today and after a rather frank discussion with the senior practice nurse, I have an appointment for tomorrow for an examination and an urgent referral to colposcopy clinic.

My mum had cervical cancer at 35 so needless to say I'm a little ruffled.

Please can I have a hand hold and some positive stories.

Thanks folks

I had similar symptoms to you, bleeding after sex and in between cycles, heavy painful periods, passing clots and bleeding for up to 2 weeks at a time.

I went for a colposcopy and nothing major was found, just a few fibroids but too small to be causing my issues, I was then sent for ablation surgery and opted to be sterilised at the same time (this was 6 months ago), was told it would be the magic fix and it would stop my periods or at least make them very light. It has helped a little but I still have all the symptoms I had before but milder ☹️, I still bleed after sex but only a tiny amount, my periods are still painful but less heavy, I still pass large clots. I am thankful that nothing nasty was found and that my symptoms are less than what they used to be but am also disappointed.

Anyway, I just wanted you to know that it’s possible that there’s nothing sinister going on (cancer), it could be fibroids, a polyp or something similar. Keeping everything crossed for you xx

@Lovemusic33

Thank you, I'm so sorry that you didn't get a proper solution, however glad for us both that this doesn't necessarily mean cancer! X

Just to say, had similar quite a few years ago, was endometrial polyp. When it was removed all went magically back to normal!
Hope your issues are equally easy to sort.

Thank you @WhoAteAllTheDinosaurs 💕

Holding both hands tightly! Also coming to say if you've history of endometriosis, then it may very well be tied to that - you might have some adhesions causing the pain/bleeding, or as pps suggest, some troublesome fibroids. Will keep everything crossed

Any update OP?

SameToo · 16/12/2021 13:35

Hope you are ok. Hand holding xx

Update for those of you kind enough to have been zo supportive.

My appointment was with a GP not the nurse as I thought, she examined me and said there appeared to be some visual change to the appearance of my cervix but no obvious tumour.

She's done an urgent referral to colposcopy with the caveat that she thinks it could just as likely be my endometriosis

Ok so that sounds like it can be treated, though endometriosis is troublesome in itself. Hope all goes well at copolscopy clinic. Please update and let us know how you are doing. All being well this can be dealt with Flowers
LittleGwyneth · 16/12/2021 14:53

That's really scary, and it's an especially horrible time of year for it. Try to focus your mind elsewhere, other than getting medical advice, which you're already doing, there isn't anything you can do about it. The chances are that you're going to be absolutely fine. You've got this. Flowers

Lovemusic33 · 16/12/2021 15:04

That sounds positive, I have suspected endo (not conformed), my cervix changes often, it’s something that gets mentioned when I have a smear. I also think my ablation surgery failed due to endo, I have since had an internal scan and was told that it looks like I didn’t have the surgery (which is why I still have heavy periods).

Hope all goes ok with your copolscopy, do make sure you take someone with you when you have it done to drive you home, I stupidly didn’t and felt a bit shaken afterwards so was stuck until I felt well enough to make my way home.

loopyapp · 16/12/2021 15:41

Thanks everyone. She did say it may well be after Xmas now so going to pop it as far out of my mind as possible!!
