Birthday party on the 23rd...

AIBU to think it's a bit daft to book a kids birthday party on the 23rd Dec at an extremely busy shopping centre?

I understand that the kids birthday can't be changed but my sons birthday is Xmas day and we always do the school party at the beginning of Dec and a small home/family party on the day.

Am really not looking forwards to going to a ram packed shopping centre 2 days before Xmas 😭

Sounds good to me; drop kid off, do last minute shopping, get the sellotape you’ve not bought yet, have a pre Christmas mania coffee and job done! Pick up tired child, afternoon of TV or off to bed.

I think it's fine. Most kids break up this Friday. By next Thursday I would be grateful for a party to take my child to.

DDs bday is 23rd and although she always had really good well attended parties I would never have done this- is it Build a Bear by any chance?
There’s parking for a start

LiloandTwitch · 15/12/2021 16:23

Everything's bought and wrapped so we didn't have to go these places last minute 😂
We avoid this place on normal days as its just too busy. It's an activity party so only an hour long. But 2 hours on public transport (hr there and back)

Wouldn’t be my ideal choice of venue, but then it’s your decision if you go or not!

BogRollBOGOF · 15/12/2021 16:49

I wouldn't necessarily go for a busy shopping centre, but it's reasonable to book as close as you can to the birthday. DS has similar timing and often a late party works better than early as most people have done their breakfast with Santa type stuff already. Mid-month is more congested.

BananaPant · 15/12/2021 20:28

Nah. That's ridiculous.

Asking for trouble if you ask me but your choice .

Surely being safe is more important than the risk, be it whether your child is excited or not.

They'll manage if they don't go.

It's my sons birthday on 21st and I've said no party this year after I've just seen the news

He can do something in the spring.
