How much do you pay roughly each month for bills/council tax/internet package etc?

I know it depends a lot, but say for a 1 or 2 bed flat.

Just looking to move with my partner but our bills are currently included, so it's difficult to know what we could expect to pay per month on top of the rental price

Thanks

Mine per month

Council tax - £150
Gas/Elec - £100
Water - £25
Internet - £25 (Broadband only)
Rental Insurance - £10
Britbox - £4.99
Amazon Prime - £7.99

Maddymorphosis · 14/12/2021 12:03

Thanks :) is that for 2 people ?

That's the full amount of the bills for the house, we don't split evenly as we earn vastly different amounts so we pay proportionally to our wages.

CristinaYangismySpiritAnimal · 14/12/2021 12:24

I’m not sure that it differs wildly whether it’s a couple, a single person or a family. Council tax, water, internet, etc. Are all the same no matter how many people live there.

housemaus · 14/12/2021 12:59

£120 council tax
£90 gas & electric
£25 water
£49 internet (highest level Virgin one, doesn't need to be this expensive!)
£13 TV licence
£13 insurance (contents)

So £310, £155 each.

The only way it was cheaper when I was by myself was the council tax, though, cos I got single occupant discount.

Polmuggle · 14/12/2021 13:03

I live alone but in a 2 bed so this might help.

£250 service charge (includes water)
£75 tv, streaming and internet
£60 gas and electric
£90 council
£15 Tv license
£35 insurances

ffscovid · 14/12/2021 13:12

Council tax is £200 a month for 10 months of the year (band C property)

Water - £40/ month

Electricity - £50/month

Oil - £60 / month (no gas here)

Broadband and landline - £25/month

We don't subscribe to Sky TV / Virgin etc.

Subscriptions (Netflix / Disney / iTunes etc - £30 / month shared between us)

Maddymorphosis · 14/12/2021 13:13

Thanks for the replies

We're in Greater Manchester, already have mobile phone packages but would need everything else, so potentially looking at around £300 per month on top of rent ?

OP posts:
Sunsetsupernova · 14/12/2021 13:15

Council tax = £136
Electric/gas = £75
BT (internet, TV and sport) = £67.71
Netflix = £13.99
Water is included in our rent

These costs are total for the flat so we each put £900 a month into a joint account to cover everything plus food shopping etc.

MrzClaus · 14/12/2021 13:21

Council tax - £180 ish
Water - £35
Electric (no gas) - £80
Tv / internet - £120
Then the regular subscriptions we had (Netflix / Amazon / phones etc)

This was from when I was in greater Manchester living with my DP before we moved.

MintJulia · 14/12/2021 13:22

One adult, one teen, per month

£20 for two phones,
£23 for broadband
£200 on food
£20 on water
£100 on gas & electric
£11 contents insurance
£163 council tax
£13 tv licence

GrandmasCat · 14/12/2021 13:25

Bear in mind that a lot of the figures you may get for energy won’t apply to you as you won’t be protected by an old contract signed before the prices went up in October.

If it helps to calculate the increase, with my old contract I was paying about £90 a month (gas and electric combined) now I am expected to pay £225 a month. (I’m obviously sitting here with the lights and central heating off and a hot water bottle on my lap)

2TurtleDovesInARow · 14/12/2021 13:25

Council tax varies wildly up and down the country and depends loosely on value of your property so I'd look at specific flats to rent then use your council calculator, similarly water providers (e.g. we are in NI and water is free). Make a spreadsheet and cost it all out

MrsMcCluskeysCat · 14/12/2021 13:34

2 bed flat in West Yorkshire

£145 Council tax (Band B)
£26 water
£60 electric (no gas)
£22 internet
£150-£200 food

Norts10 · 14/12/2021 14:10

Council tax £180
Gas and electric about £120 (half that in summer)
Water £25
Wifi £20
Sky and TV £100 (DH covers that as it’s mainly for him)
Insurance £30 month

You should be able to find out council tax rates on properties online before you view them. We also put £50 a month each away for any unexpected household issues (things breaking or needing replacing).
