To think that Nigel Slater makes everything better?

Welll, maybe not everything, but quite a lot.

I couldn’t sleep with worries about my very poorly mum, work, Covid uncertainty, so headed downstairs for a cuppa and a spot of therapeutic Nigelling.

He’s been part of my life for years now. I adore his writing style; about food, food culture, traditions, ways of life. I find his pared back style incredibly nourishing when there’s so much going on in the world. And he’s never gushy or showy-off. In fact, I also find the melancholy that quite often makes an appearance helps too.

Of course, I know my home or way of living will never be much like Nigel’s ( although I harbour an elaborate fantasy in which he’s looking for a lodger). But for a too-busy greeder, he makes life just a little bit better.

Any other Nigellers about?

Quite a few on here 😀

Totally agree. I cannot be stressed when reading Nigel. I read his books with his voice in my head and it just slows me right down. I don't like to watch him eat on TV, but his books are my go tos for recipe and comfort and I reread them regularly just because.

Angus thank you! I had no idea my people gathered here and will head over later today 🙂

Enjoy - can't beat Nigel. Following Nigella on Twitter is a delight too.

Just discovered his writing via The Christmas Chronicles and totally agree. And I'm vegan so can't even eat most of what he cooks!

Though he can’t cook. Just puts a grand total of 1.5 ingredients in a pan then calls it a dish.

I love Nigel. I find him very soothing, though I wish my fridge had the same quality of “leftovers” he finds in his!

There is a podcast where Nigel reads extracts from the Christmas Chronicles (podcast has now been rebranded The Cook’s Chronicles). I am suffering from severe and intermittent peri menopausal anxiety, and when I feel bad I just put this on with my earbuds so he’s talking directly into my head and it’s amazingly calming.

Highly recommended.

Oh I know, there's something very magnetic about his calmness. I'd love to live next door and pop round occasionally to share bunches of sorrel.
