AIBU to gift people I didn't see last year the present from last year or should I buy a fresh present this year and gift both? Really more of a WWYD

What sort of presents have you had hanging around the house for a year?

PrincessConsuelaBanana · 14/12/2021 06:13

As long as it’s something they’ll still like / still use / still fit into / hasn’t gone off etc, I’d definitely use last years unused gifts.

SarahBellam · 14/12/2021 06:14

If the presents are suitable then absolutely use them. Better for the environment, better for your pocket and your stress levels, and the giftee still gets something nice. Why wouldn’t you?

Novasmummy · 14/12/2021 06:15

@EllieSattler

Not edible ones! Wrapped ones which didn't get given due to last minute changes last Christmas.

@SarahBellam

It just feels a bit stingy that they end up short a gift due to living far away. I might just add a box of chocolates or something, somewhere in the middle between a second gift and not

But also that if there are last minute Christmas plan changes again won't languish in a cupboard for a year 😢

I think that is fine.

You options are:

  • Give those presents now
  • Give an extra present, so two
  • Give something else (and do something with last year's presents)

All are fine, IMO

GoodnightGrandma · 14/12/2021 06:19

Just give last years.

TwoAndCooPlease · 14/12/2021 08:45

ones which didn't get given due to last minute changes last Christmas.

This makes all the difference op. I initially thought it was gifts given to you from others but seems it's presents you bought but didn't use last year
It's fine!

So are you expecting two lots of presents from everyone you didn't see last year?

Do you feel that you are a gift "short"?

Justheretoaskaquestion91 · 14/12/2021 09:19

Why didn’t you get them to them last year?

babouchette · 14/12/2021 09:51

I've got this situation with two relatives who live overseas. I am double gifting - last year's cookbook/bath oil and this year a subscription to Disney+. Brexit and Covid mean I've had the book/bath oil package wrapped up and ready to go for a whole year! Blush
