We only want [x] gifts - it's always hard to buy for people making it harder

on one hand, I do get that people don't want to be gifted things they don't really value and we live in a society that needs to reduce waste and overconsumption, but some people are hard enough to buy for because of their picky tastes without them adding rules that narrow the options even further

aibu to say people that only want consumable/experience/eco-friendly etc gifts are almost always the ones who were frustrating to buy for to begin with?????

I've requested no shower gel sets or calendars because shower gels give me a rash and I don't use a calendar so it goes straight in the bin so it would be hugely wasteful for people to buy them for me. I also wouldn't buy these items for others.

My family can be really picky with gifts - especially my mum - so for the last few years everybody has gotten gift cards, usually for chain pubs/restaurants or occasionally for amazon/kindle/playstation etc. I welcome suggestions but if they won't venture one then they get what they're given. Would rather gift somebody a nice meal out or date night than some tat they will throw out or re-gift and I'm happy to receive the same as ultimately it will actually be used and appreciated!

Maybe this is something to consider in future? Having to try so hard to find gifts just sucks all the joy out of the season in my experience.

Maybe they genuinely don't want anything.

Time to broach the no gift option?
I didn't bite the bullet this year but I really want to.
