DH & DS want a chocolate fountain but am I wrong in thinking they're a terrible faff?

Can I use the likes of Cadbury in one or will it need to be thinned?

Don't get me started on the horror of cleaning one....DH can do that Confused

Imo they're a bit of a novelty that you use about 3 times

MoiraNotRuby · 13/12/2021 00:17

You are not wrong. Its a load of messy faff to end up with something less nice than it was before. You get nice chocolate and add oil, its never going to be an improvement!!!

StrangerThanSpring · 13/12/2021 00:19

If you do get one, we mix the chocolate with milk rather than oil. It works just as well but I think it tastes better. We do use ours a few times a year. It's fun!

great to use but a bugger to clean

same with the candy floss machines as well

(i have both)

changenametopost · 13/12/2021 01:23

Do they want it for breakfast?

Or for a party?

Chocolate costs loads
Wastes loads
Bugger to clean
After 3 parties and about £120 in chocolate , I gave ours away for free

Just melt chocolate in a bowl in microwave for 1/15th cost and let them dip strawberries, marshmellows and whatever in that.

changenametopost · 13/12/2021 01:25

Also- don't buy the candy floss machine nor the popcorn machine

Mum of multiple DCs here ... tried them all, BIG waste of money and cupboard space...

BanditoShipman · 13/12/2021 01:35

We had one last Christmas I think, prob been out twice since and will use again this Christmas but faff to clean and novelty soon wears off! See also candy floss maker, took us about 14 hours to make an inch worth 😁

Herewearestar · 13/12/2021 01:38

I bought one. Had to put kilos of melted chocin, one third equivalent in oil in (which really made you feel yucky) and then the damn thing never flowed. You must need Cadburys entire yearly output to get a good flow.

Melt chocolate in a bowl and enjoy. Much better, cleaner and tastier.

CakesOfVersailles · 13/12/2021 01:48

Chocolate fondue sets or just melted chocolate in a bowl are usually better in practical terms.

DysmalRadius · 13/12/2021 02:08

You need tons of chocolate to get enough to actually flow (never used oil, just cheap Tesco milk chocolate) and even my kids said they'd rather just have a bowl of melted chocolate every so often than the palaver of the fountain.

StrangerThanSpring · 13/12/2021 02:26

I agree that a chocolate fondue is much easier and tastes better.

Belledan1 · 13/12/2021 02:49

Ours was a faff too. A fondue set is easier. Also dont buy a slush machine. Stuff expensive. Noisey and takes ages. Them mugs you can get you put in freezer are just as good.
