Have they changed baby name?

So I've got a friend (not particularly close especially during covid we've drifted apart), so now more a friend of a friend.

They had a baby during lockdown and I sent a present etc but am meeting them next weekend for the 1st time since baby was born.

Tonight I noticed they'd posts a pic of their DD on fb, and I thought the forking was different to his I remembered. Scrolled back a couple of posts and they've been spelling her name a particular way for the last couple of months.

However, if you go further back they used to spell it they way I had thought they initially had. It's not a name I was familiar with before.

It seems a bit strange to me that they'd suddenly change the spelling for no reason so I'm now wondering if they've changed the pronunciation too?
Should I ask?

Also one of the gifts I've bought is personalised with DDs name and I've used the spelling they originally used. Can I just pretend I didn't notice? Do I ask? I'm confused as they just seemed to slip the spelling change under the radar. Are they just hoping to avoid any awkward conversations? If so,'it might be worse if i ask?

Just ask, it will avoid any awkward questions.

It took me 4 years to ask my sister what my niece's surname was because I was overthinking what she'd have thought of my question. Turns out it wasn't a big deal at all.

Good luck!

Just ask!

When you give them the present say something like ''I noticed a couple of different spellings were used for baby's name online, and I wasnt sure which one to use, sorry if I've gotten it wrong!''

Or txt them something like that before you see them to ask if your spelling needs to be corrected.
