To wonder if the Nationality & Borders bill applies to my family?

I’ve been reading up and don’t fully understand it. It’s clearly racist and disgraceful but I’m wondering if it could affect my (white) family too?

My husband’s mother is Danish. His father is British. He was born in Denmark but moved here when he was 4 and has a British passport. So am I right in thinking if he commits a minor offence like speeding he could have his citizenship revoked? And the same for his mum?

Sadly yes, we are now legally second class citizens, as someone who has been wrongly arrested and illegally subjected to stop and search multiple times it really scares me.

Bloody hell, it’s just unbelievable isn’t it??!
But surely this applies to Priti Patel herself?

My mums family are Polish, though she was actually born in Germany. She has been naturalised here and is a British citizen, but this bill terrified me when I heard about it. It's meant to be used for more serious things than speeding I thought, but the worry is it could be used for more minor things.

Darbs76 · 11/12/2021 17:09

It won’t be used for minor things, not enough staff to implement it for major offences. There’s always been the authority to revoke citizenship but assume this bill makes it easier

I think the message of the last few days has been that laws now only apply to us - not the government.

This means your children gets affected too becuase your husband was not born in the UK.

SushiGo · 11/12/2021 17:42

Yes, it does.

It's all very well airily saying that it won't be used for minor offences, but it depends entirely on who is in charge as to whether it is or isn't.

Makes the Nuremberg laws look positively progressive.
