DS has a Christmas birthday and I’m struggling to judge how much to get him without him being too overwhelmed.
I’m also a bit stuck for ideas

So far for Christmas he has:
Two books
New dressing gown
New slippers
Tractor with trailer wooden toy

We will be with his cousins for Christmas who always get a lot of gifts but I don’t want to go too mad as he doesn’t fully understand yet and I think he will just get overwhelmed, but need a few more ideas!

He loves colouring and crafts and is very into the film Planes so might get him something to do with that. I’m keen to get him some learning toys as well.

A bag of dulpo, some plastic animals and a woody doll (toy story)

DropYourSword · 11/12/2021 09:54

They don’t really need too much and it can get very overwhelming when there’s too much too.
I’ve always tried to keep a reign in things and then worried I haven’t got enough. Then I give my head a wobble - it’s always been more than plenty.
Has he said what he would like from Santa? Mine asked for an ice cream when he was 2. So that’s what Santa brought him! I loved that simple request!

Snooptheboot · 11/12/2021 09:56

Play doh and playmobil 123

Newuser82 · 11/12/2021 09:57

Some learning scales, books, and some trucks

Thelnebriati · 11/12/2021 09:59

DS was crafty and one of his best presents every year was a cheap ream of A4 paper, along with scissors, glue and felt tips, stickers and old magazines.
With some help he made paper aeroplanes, picture books, scrapbooks, paper dolls, xmas star decorations and doilies, masks and hats, origami, puppets, paper chains, fortune tellers and Wanted posters.
I found some books in the library about making paper toys for inspiration, and you can look online for freebies you can download and print out.

Duplo- hours of fun

As it's his favourite film a child version of Disney Pixar aeroplane (but supervise his playing with it)

Eg Disney Planes by Mattel X9643 El Chupabacra toy aeroplane

www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Disney-Planes-by-Mattel-X9643-El-Chupabacra-toy-aeroplane-/234322810399?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l6249&mkrid=710-127635-2958-0

Craft items for you to do together - as you said he enjoys that

andtherewere2 · 11/12/2021 10:34

I'd be liking for a warm fleece blanket in his favourite character
As toddlers LOVE those !! For those spontaneous naps 🤣

GlumyGloomer · 11/12/2021 10:49

Balance bike
Jigsaw
Warmie (cuddly toy /heat pad)
2 books

nachocheese · 11/12/2021 10:51

My daughter just turned two in October. She's getting a big box of wooden blocks as she loves stacking and some Hey Duggee toys as it's the only thing she'll entertain on tv. She also loves scribbling so will probably get some chunky wax crayons for her stocking, and I've got some new books.
She's still only just started talking so doesn't understand Christmas yet, and certainly doesn't understand enough to ask Santa for anything, so I think she'll like what we've bought.

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 11/12/2021 11:25

My DD will be 2 in February. We're giving her a wooden kitchen for Christmas.
She'll probably get some wooden jigsaws too. Might put pencils or crayons in her stocking as haven't had many ideas what to put in there.
She's getting the leapfrog scoop and learn ice cream cart with a few other gifts for her birthday so feels like we're spoiling her when we specifically said we wouldn't.

Piglet89 · 11/12/2021 11:42

Thomas the Tank stuff, Brio railway stuff, Peppa and George beanie soft toys second hand from eBay.

mynameiscalypso · 11/12/2021 11:46

Lots of Brio from the grandparents. We're getting him a play supermarket checkout thing.

Chasingaftermidnight · 11/12/2021 11:46

Jigsaws, Brio, some books, and an ‘easel’ with a blackboard and some magnetic letters.

Mizydoscape · 11/12/2021 11:51

Our 2 1/2 is getting a play kitchen with pots and pans etc as that's her favourite at the childminder

Camomila · 11/12/2021 11:53

DS2 will be 2 in Jan.

He's getting a happy land bundle from Ebay, a road floor puzzle and 2 toot toot cars, and a new Julia Donaldson book.

(He has a 5 year old brother so I've tried to get them similar toys)

ohreallynotreally · 11/12/2021 11:54

Play kitchen,play doh ,jigsaw .

Incywinceyspider · 11/12/2021 12:16

I've got way too much, but it will all get used over the year so I'm not too bothered if he's not interested in opening stuff on the day. We'll just go at his pace.

He's got:
Wooden kitchen and pots and pans to go with it
wooden train set
Doll and pushchair
couple of books
Playdoh
Colour sorting game
Ball
Pyjamas, dressing gown and slippers
Couple of bath toys
Stocking doesn't have much in it. Accessories for his main presents and chocolate mostly!

My DM and PIL are getting him stuff to go with his kitchen

Shimmylikejoanholloway · 11/12/2021 15:21

Thank you for these ideas! I feel better about what I've got planned - I was going for a mix of what he needs, what he likes, plus a toy and a book/s really. Then I spoke to my SIL and cousin and they are getting their toddlers so much more, I felt like I was doing it all wrong! I know you shouldn't compare.

@DropYourSword we haven't really explained Santa to him this year as we thought he was too young and wouldn't understand, probably a mistake on our part! He can point Santa out and is obsessed with Christmas lights. I suspect if he did get the concept of gift gifting he would ask for a biscuit or blueberries Grin

@Incywinceyspider which colour sorting game do you have if you don't mind sharing? He's just learned shapes and is getting very interested in colours.

Overreactingmom · 11/12/2021 15:30

From Santa he has asked for - colouring pencils, bath toys and a rocket.

We have got him duplo, a toddler sized wooden shop roleplay, dressing up and some wooden games from Melissa and Doug.

Cheeseycheeseycheesecheese · 11/12/2021 15:36

Not a lot as he'll be spoilt by grandparents

Nesting animal dolls (like Russian dolls but painted as animals)
A box of dinosaurs
A little storage box (we got him a construction vehicle advent calendar so they all need a home)
Some books

Prinnny · 11/12/2021 16:06

DD2.5 I’ve gone slightly overboard but never mind 😂

Toy kitchen, pans, food, frozen castle and dolls, all the paw patrol teddies, paw patrol building blocks, tool bench toy, little mermaid doll, play doh set, crafting table and chair, balance bike, play hospital and ambulance, nurses outfit, pop up pirate, chocolate lolly maker, kristof and Sven sleigh, princess dress up set, gruffalo puzzle, room on the broom play set, Peppa playground, toy helicopter, toomie bath toy

There’s a few more but hopefully you’ll get some ideas

girlmom21 · 11/12/2021 16:08

We got a wooden dentist tool belt from aldi which is quite cool, colouring books, a kiddie camera

LynnThese4reSEXPEOPLE · 11/12/2021 16:10

Hey Duggee Plushie (not the one that talks) and some enamel plates and bowls

Toottooot · 11/12/2021 16:12

A ride on Range Rover, a garden play house, a trampoline for the garden and probably some other small bits yet to be decided. Don’t want to go too ott.
