Pregnancy sickness

I am currently 10 weeks pregnant with my second. For background I didn't have a single day off (other than for appts) with my first pregnancy. Very limited other time off.

This pregnancy has been hideous and I have suffered severe sickness - up to 10 times a day, currently around 4-6 times. Along with this is pain, weakness and fatigue.

Employer aware of this but no measures brought in to support. I was off sick for 5 days last week (which can be self certified) but was still unwell so spoke to Gp. Gp would not prescribe anti sickness for 1st trimester but signed me off work for 2 further weeks. This was on Wednesday. I updated my employer and said if I did feel better in the meantime I would come back to work.

They have emailed me today to ask when I think I will be back and whether I have improved yet.

I think this is out of line - I was only signed off days ago and clearly said that if I felt able to return earlier I would let them know. AIBU?

You made a rod for your own back by saying you'd let them know if you felt better and would come back earlier. Next time just say you're signed off for 2 weeks- here's the doc note goodbye!

Yes true. Not sure how to respond?

Just say no, I'm too ill and I intend to likely take the full 2 weeks. I will contact you if I need to, I would appreciate otherwise being left to recuperate in the mean time.

I agree with PP. Just reply and say you don't expect to be back earlier than the 2 weeks.

I suffered with severe hyperemesis during both of my pregnancies. You can definitely have anti sickness medication during the first trimester. I wouldn't have survived without it!

Echo previous poster. I was admitted to hospital at 8 weeks and pumped full of anti sickness medicine.

Check out the the Hyperemesis support threads and Pregnancy Sickness Support website. Both are brilliant.

Keep contacting your GP. Do not suffer in silence. If needs be make a fuss.

Thank you everyone, I will go back to GP.
