Turned away from my booster

Refusedmybooster · 09/12/2021 21:08

New rules started yesterday, anyone can have booster as long as they had their second jab at least 91 days ago.
Went onto NHS website and booked for this morning. I'm at 5 and a half months post second jab.
Turned up today and was turned away as I wasn't yet at 6 months.
I read out the guidance on the NHS website.
I showed that I had booked through the correct channels.
Computer says no.
They want us to have a vaccine and then say no.
What a joke.
(Name change but long standing mumsnetter)

Thought it had only opened to over 40s right now. What age are you?

Cocomarine · 09/12/2021 21:11

Why the name change though?

dementedpixie · 09/12/2021 21:13

You can use this service to pre-book a booster dose of the vaccine if it's been 2 months (61 days) since your 2nd dose and you're in one of these groups:

  • aged 40 and over
  • aged 16 and over with ahealth condition that puts you at high risk from COVID-19
  • frontline health and social care workers

Information:

Although you can pre-book a booster dose from 2 months (61 days) after your 2nd dose, the appointment dates you'll be offered will be from 3 months (91 days) after your 2nd dose.

If you're under 40 you arent eligible yet

anniegun · 09/12/2021 21:14

Are you over 40?

dementedpixie · 09/12/2021 21:15

Also
The NHS is working on plans to offer:

  • a booster dose to everyone aged 18 years old and over
  • a booster dose to people aged 16 years old and over with a severely weakened immune system
  • a 2nd dose to all children aged 12 to 15 years old who are not already eligible

Please note that this is not yet available.

We'll update this page once the service is updated. Please wait to be contacted by the NHS.

My husband had this and other people saying same locally. Some vaccination centres (2 of the biggest round here) haven't yet got their licence to vaccinate if under 6 months. I've moved mine to next week in the hope it starts happening next week.

dementedpixie · 09/12/2021 21:17

If you're not over 40 they're unlikely to give you it

DeepaBeesKit · 09/12/2021 21:18

I was more than 6m since my 2and dose as at 1 dec. The system wouldnt let me book as I'm not over 40.

1 week later and you guessed it - I've got Covid, and given it to my daughter.

JabNotInArm · 09/12/2021 21:19

I was refused mine yesterday despite my surgery texting me asking me to book. So annoying

Motherhubbardscupboard · 09/12/2021 21:20

OP I was also turned away today having booked on the NHS site. It's because I had Moderna for doses 1 and 2, and you're not allowed a third Moderna until 6 months. The vaccination centre only has Moderna, not Pfizer, but the booking app didn't know that. I was advised to either go to a walk in centre for a Pfizer jab or wait until 6 months (only another couple of weeks for me)

neamchimpsky · 09/12/2021 21:21

Friend was working today as volunteer at local pop up vaccination clinic. They hadn't officially been given the new guidance so we're also turning people away under 6 months. Half way through the new guidance came in and they could then vaccinate over 3 months. Bonkers, but it was an issue with the information getting through, not the staff at the site. They knew it was changing, but couldn't do anything until they had officially been told. So frustrating, but do try again.

OP, name change fail.

CarrotPuff · 09/12/2021 21:38

Same happened to my husband. He is over 40 as well.

Refusedmybooster · 09/12/2021 21:38

Yes I'm over 40.
Name change as several people know this happened to me today and don't want them to know other things I've posted before .
I'd not had moderna before.

Just the fact that i got the invite and the NHS website let me book but the centre wouldn't let me in shows the lack of joined up thinking.

Thanks for the heads up, I’ll have to check mine out. I had moderna for my first. I’ve just brought mine forward so I’ll be a week short of 6 months. I’ll call them in the morning to check.
DobbyTheHouseElk · 09/12/2021 21:41

This is a thing. Local vaccination places are saying despite the new rules. They are sticking to 6 months, it’s frustrating.

Foolsrule · 09/12/2021 21:41

No one has a fucking clue. I got turned away by one centre, they said they’d do it at the next but the queue was 2 hours long so went to a third and they did it at five and a half months. Nurse wasn’t bothered, said, you’re a bit early but I’ll ignore that. No she jabbed away.

Foolsrule · 09/12/2021 21:42

*so

that is really annoying. Fortunately I have booked mine for 3 days after the 6 months, so I should be ok (and am also over 40 anyway).
Sweetbabyrays · 09/12/2021 21:45

My dh got turned away too, despite meeting the criteria, getting a text and booking, but computer said no… a joke!!!

HereComesTheSun12 · 09/12/2021 21:47

I got called early for first doses as I'm asthmatic on steroid inhalers. 2nd dose was in May but I've only been able to book a booster by virtue of a recent significant birthday. It's a joke - still got to wait another week as nothing available in this area.

JabNotInArm · 09/12/2021 21:48

I was turned away because I'm 37, despite being over the 6 months and the fact they'd invited me to book AND I had to enter my DOB in order to verify my identify for my booking link. I literally had my sleeve rolled up and they made me leave.

Ive escalated it to the org running this particular vaccination hub as I feel turning people away who have booked when asked and in good faith is a massive fail and hugely undermines the vaccination programme and the messaging. "Book your jab (but first work out whether we're going to tell you to bugger off when you show up for your appointment!)" n

Cookerhood · 09/12/2021 21:51

We are jabbing anyone who comes through the door if it is 3 months since their last vaccination. It depends on the clinical lead at the site.

ElephantandGrasshopper · 09/12/2021 21:54

Our local vaccine centre is only doing 6 months post booster still. I could travel to get it sooner but I'm 5 and a half months and would rather wait a couple of weeks / after Xmas and get it done then.
