To wish test and trace would do things differently?

My children tested positive for Covid yesterday. I have now received 8 calls from T & T. I’ve managed to answer twice and both times I couldn’t hear what they were saying, 1st time I could literally hear myself saying hello back about 4 times. I then said I can just hear an echo I know it’s test and trace calling but I can’t hear you. I then heard someone mumble something about going to a website and they disconnected
The 2nd time I answered I couldn’t make out what they were saying (definitely someone there but so so quiet) so I ended the call. Is this not something I can do online? The calls are getting on my nerves now. Should I block the number? They have my email address? Sorry if I’m talking crap, it’s been a long day!

How odd. I've never heard of anyone else having this issue so maybe it's your phone or signal or something? I wouldn't block their number in case they get funny and start sending you threatening emails or something. But maybe keep trying or give them another number to call when you answer even if you can't hear them well.

I had this exact issue yesterday. A different person called back in the evening and it was fine.

Onehotmess · 09/12/2021 18:47

My phone seems fine for other calls. I’ll try my best to answer the next one. The main problem I see is there is no number you can call back!

They’ve just called agin, I said hello 4 times in between I could hear background call centre noise, then an automatic message clicked on saying ‘you’ve been called by rest and trace on this number, please answer the phone we will call you again today or tomorrow (paraphrasing) but that’s the same message they left on my answer phone. How can they not think I’m answering when I’m literally saying hello?! Hello?? 4 times!

I spoke to T&T Monday, and the line was really echoey. When I mentioned it to the person calling me he said they knew their lines were awful.

emz1990 · 09/12/2021 19:45

It's so hard, with them working from home I find connections are dodgy. We all had covid in October and was told by T & T that adults could fill out the form online but children have to have a phonecall with their parent/Guardian, such a pain there isn't an online section for children! Good luck!!

HappyDays40 · 09/12/2021 19:48

Just ignore and carry on.

ComDummings · 09/12/2021 19:50

I just didn’t even answer. I filled in an online form and ignored the calls.

Onehotmess · 09/12/2021 19:50

Thanks @emz1990 that makes sense then as it’s the kids! What a palaver! I’ll try and answer again tomorrow 👍🏻

My friend said the phone line was awful when they spoke to her.

fiorentina · 09/12/2021 19:56

Agreed. I had similar - echoey calls, calls from them where nobody ever spoke up. It was irritating. I don’t know why they can’t let you fill in the forms online for children like adults can. It isn’t efficient.

Fluffybeebee · 09/12/2021 20:02

I had 5 calls before I actually managed to answer all the questions. The sound quality was horrific and I was cut off several times.

The caller's themselves were even worse. They were clearly reading off some sort of flow chart, which isn't a problem but nothing flowed (and it sounded like they were barely literate). I was asked if DS had stayed over at anyone's house to which I replied yes, but they then moved on to a totally separate question. The worst time was a young girl who had someone next to her while speaking to me. She kept giggling and went off to laugh before coming back. It didn't feel professional at all.

Bagamoyo1 · 09/12/2021 20:03

I’d just stop answering. Presumably you’ve told all your contacts. All they’re going to do is ask you stupid questions like who your kids sit next to in class, and tell you how long the kids have to isolate for.
