I mean, everyone had to walk right past the police on the doors didn't they? So why didn't police do anything?

Because the police are part of the establishment who don’t give a hoot

fluffythedragonslayer · 09/12/2021 07:20

Corruption

Landof · 09/12/2021 07:23

It's terrible. My mental health was very poor last Christmas but I stuck to the rules because that was what was expected of us and I wanted to protect everyone. It's just a disgrace. How anyone can vote Conservative in future is beyond me

Bluntness100 · 09/12/2021 07:24

Because work meetings were permitted remember.

CheesyFootballsAreEvil · 09/12/2021 07:25

Because they are there to look nice and stop the place being attacked. Not to prevent illegal entry of cheese. It could have been smuggled in. They probably also didn't expect a party to be held in no.10 of all places at that time.

Mybalconyiscracking · 09/12/2021 07:26

Yes of course, because they have ABSOLUTELY nothing better to do!

If Christmas gets cancelled this year then I will be having a work meeting at my in-laws with a business meal Grin
ThisIsStartingToBoreMe · 09/12/2021 07:29

Nothing better to do lol? They are literally stood outside No 10 for 8 hours making sure no nasty people get in. That's it!

And meetings weren't allowed, we were on lockdown remember.

To be fair, I think OP is talking about the police outside Downing Street at the time of the party. Not taking police off a current murder investigation or something.

Don't forget the cheese and wine Wink

Kshhuxnxk · 09/12/2021 07:31

It's a farce. As someone who votes tory purely to try to stop snp rot I won't even bother voting next time. They're all a wasteif space. This life is shit.

MythicalBiologicalFennel · 09/12/2021 07:34

Yanbu at all OP

The whole party debacle is a disgrace. But for the police to brush it off - both at the time and now - is disgusting. It has pissed me off far more.

I guess I expect the government to lie and cheat and show their contempt for the electorate with everything they do. To see the police neglecting their duties and condoning wrongdoing so openly puts them in the same league.

But that's political life in the UK Xmas Angry

PassingByAndThoughtIdDropIn · 09/12/2021 07:35

Most of the people at the party presumably worked there and work long and random hours. And additional people came in and out for legitimate meetings all the time. Nobody's leaked a photo but from what I've heard it doesn't sound like the sort of do where the women would turning up in dead giveaway sparkly frocks.

The more interesting issue is that a lot of coronavirus regulations specifically didn't apply to public offices, which might bring the "one rule for us, one rule for them" perception into even sharper focus.

ArblemarchTFruitbat · 09/12/2021 07:37

Wasn't there a statement from the police earlier in the year to say they wouldn't be prosecuting anyone retrospectively for Covid rule breaking?

Notonthestairs · 09/12/2021 07:46

It was not ok to hold a vigil outside for Sarah Everard.

It was ok to have a party (sorry, "business meeting") for 30-40 indoors.

Cressida Dick owed the Government one.

CherryRedDMs · 09/12/2021 07:46

They weren’t breaking the law when they entered, and the police presumably don’t know exactly what is going on inside.
In a pandemic, people have to have the integrity to behave properly themselves, the police can’t be everywhere. Unsurprisingly, the current government don’t have that integrity.
