DH's mother tends to phone and waffle on a bit (it's a running joke) and she and FILstay up very late and sleep in late. Both retired.

we've gone to bed at 10 as both knackered and up for work at 6.30. She calls.... he answers because thinks must be emergency. No - just chatting on as usual. She's not super old and not lonely. That's not normal / ok is it ? Or is it ! It really wound me up !

Sounds like dh’s family, they always phone really late.

His brother used to phone any time up to midnight, it annoyed me so much, then they had their own children and phone calls after 9 all stopped! Surprise surprise!

Depends on if you know they'll be up.

Some of my friends and family I wouldn't dream of calling after 8pm. The ones with kids I probably wouldn't call after 6pm, and I'd text first rather than ringing.

With some of them, though, I know they'll be awake, so 10pm isn't a big deal.

Different strokes for different folks and all that.
