To reschedule work Christmas meal to January

Conundra · 08/12/2021 21:45

I run a small business and currently have a Christmas meal booked for next week at a local pub. There will be approximately 10-15 people. I have paid a large deposit to the pub.
What is the least worst option taking into account everyone involved, including the pub.

YANBU- cancel next week’s meal and reschedule for January.

YABU- Go ahead as planned, requesting attendees have negative LFTs immediately before attending and making it clear that attendance is voluntary.

Ours is tomorrow and we are going for the latter.

CasperGutman · 08/12/2021 21:58

Ours is Friday and we're going for the latter.

If new restrictions are brought in, on past form what are the chances it'll only be for a couple of weeks? If I moved it, I'd move it to the spring.

CampervanQueen · 08/12/2021 21:59

Ours is on Monday afternoon. Waiting to hear opinions from my fellow organisers as I am on the fence with this one...

GrandDuchessRomanov · 08/12/2021 22:02

Go for the latter.

Christmas meals in January totally miss the point imo.

sunshineandshowers40 · 08/12/2021 22:03

Ours has been cancelled. I think I would go for your second option.

LizzieSiddal · 08/12/2021 22:05

We’ve moved ours to June! We can guarantee it will happen as we will be able to eat outside.
We’ve sent everyone a gift to make up for the meal.

Itsnotdeep · 08/12/2021 22:07

Ours is next week and has been postponed. In our case people were reluctant to travel in on public transport.

Jumpingintochristmas · 08/12/2021 22:09

I would go for option two, give people the choice.

FawnFrenchieMum · 08/12/2021 22:09

I can totally see why postponing feels the right thing to do but don’t expect it to happen in January if you do. I suspect there will be more restrictions in January not less.

Iggly · 08/12/2021 22:10

I suspect things will be worse by January so I would do it now.

ImInStealthMode · 08/12/2021 22:12

Ours is Saturday and it's the latter for us. If the company cancelled at this stage most of us would still go and just pay our own way.

shinynewapple21 · 08/12/2021 22:15

I would say if you want to go for your meal then do it as planned next week . I can't see that the Covid risk will be any less in January - although I guess the pub may be less busy .

ArblemarchTFruitbat · 08/12/2021 22:18

If you ask me the Covid situation is more likely to be worse in January than better. Add to that, the pointlessness and faintly depressing nature of 'Christmas' meals in January, and I would either have it next week as planned (with LFTs as suggested) or cancel altogether.
