Please help me feel better about the lockdown jelly belly

I have to go to a Christmas party tonight. My first in about 3 years. After spending the last 2 weeks secretly hoping it gets cancelled it hasn't been and I haven't been out forever and I'm fairly committed now that it starts in 2 hours. It would also appear I've failed to lose the 3 stone I was planning to in those 2 weeks either Grin

I also thought I'd be ok in my super stretchy dress but no. I've just sat down in it and I look like a rubber ring factory round the middle in it.
Are cardigans still acceptable. That's all I've got. It is a sparkly going out one. I think if I can wear the cardi and cover up the jelly rings I'll survive. Any ideas. Are heels acceptable still. The heels definitely help me look better.

Also how long is acceptable to stay in the loo and cry for about it all 😂

Next time invest in some magic knickers or whatever they are called. They flatten the stomach.

Oh I've actually got a holdy in thingy on but it's boned so it's not helping as much as I'd hoped. Spanx would probably be the miracle cure but I won't be able to get one now thanks though

It's working standing up but not sitting down!

Don't sit down!

Loads of people have put on a lot of weight this year. Most people will be too busy feeling conscious about themselves to pay you any attention, then an hour in they'll all be too drunk. Go, try to enjoy yourself.

The cardigan is good - sparkly is Christmassy and you’ll feel much more comfortable. Bung on some nice jewellery as well and you’ll look lovely (I have the same issue - solved it with a floaty dress but still felt round around the middle)

Justheretoaskaquestion91 · 08/12/2021 16:52

I don’t care for Spanx or whatever because they are uncomfortable. But I just want to say I sympathise and a sparkly cardigan sounds wonderful

Leftbutcameback · 08/12/2021 16:52

And if it’s a seated meal in dim lighting no one will notice anyway

LunaLoveFood · 08/12/2021 17:05

Either don't sit down or if it's a meal tuck yourself right into the table so no-one can see! Have a great time.

Justheretoaskaquestion91 · 08/12/2021 17:10

Also if it’s a meal you have the option of using a strategically placed napkin

shipshapenot · 08/12/2021 17:59

Thanks all! I'm sure after the wine kicks in I'll be a bit more cheery about the situation
