To think this is cheating?

So if there’s a game and for example the question is something to do with numbers or letters, like: “what is 12 x 12” or “how do you spell ” and someone shouts out straight away that they know the answer and then in the next few seconds work out the answer because they didn’t actually know the answer straight away when the question was asked, then that is cheating, isn’t it? Would you refuse to join in a family board game this Christmas if people played in that way and constantly won because of this tactic?

Games are supposed to be fun. I wouldn't play any game where I had to ask the internet if someone was breaking the rules.

If you insist on playing the game say that whoever calls out must say the answer immediately and if they don't it's classed as a wrong answer.

As a child who suffered mental and physical abuse from my mother I can tell you that I hate board games and even if I play with grandchildren now I do not/can not enjoy them. She used Monopoly to beat me down with mentally. It was cruel and she took immense pleasure seeing me suffer. She would let the others cheat and encouraged it.
I would not play with this person. It's not worth the angst.
Just reading this made me feel sad

Surely if it's a 'fastest finger first' type thing then the first person to call out the answer is the winner? So if you/somebody else called out the correct answer first they could not claim the win, because 'I know the answer' is not the correct answer.

If its a buzzer/hands up type situation then I'd set a rule that you must answer immediately or lose your opportunity.

However I probably just wouldn't play as this does not sound like a fun game.

Have you watched game shows on TV, they get a set amount of seconds to answer after buzzing in.
