To use out of date whitening gel?

I paid a lot of money to have my teeth whitened a couple of years ago. Then life took over and I let my lovely white teeth get all stained and sad looking.

I still have some gels in the fridge, a 10% and 16% carbamide peroxide (i used the enlighten tooth whitening). They expired 12 months ago….
Along with the desensitising swabs.
Should I risk using them?

I would try it and see. But perhaps leave it on for less time than normal if you think the de-sensitising gel is no longer as effective.
And If the gel is still effective you may have to leave the bleach on for a bit longer.

Hmm… I’m very tempted. The gels still look ok, they haven’t discoloured or anything. And they’ve been constantly kept in the fridge since purchasing.

Only thing is, they’re the overnight ones so not sure if I could use them less than normal… unless I were to wake up with burning gums 😳

I had some from the dentist (Polanight?) that you used to have to keep on overnight but he later said to just use them for an hour or two.

I've asked the dentist about this, he said it won't hurt if it's expired, but might just not work as well. I'm going to use mine!

I’ve used my out if date (but kept in fridge) enlighten gel and it worked fine. In theory it might be less efficient.

As long as it's unopened it will be ok.

Quickchangeartiste · 07/12/2021 11:38

I used mine the other week -about a year out of date . They were fine.

They have been opened but there’s still a good amount left in there. And I’ve kept them all in a sealed Tupperware box so I’m hoping that’s helped.
Right, thanks everyone, you’ve put some of my fears to rest, I’m going to use them. They were too expensive not to 😆

I was worried I would have some adverse reaction to them but if the worst than can happen is they’ll be less efficient then I’ll give it a go!
