Do you have an extractor fan in your bathroom?

Does everyone have an extractor fan in their bathroom these days?

We do not and rely on opening the window and leaving it open after the shower but it gets quite steamy in the room.

We are thinking of having an extractor fan installed. Can anyone explain how much work goes into installing them or a rough cost if you've done the same?

Will it stop the room getting so steamed up or will it just clear quicker?

Trying to avoid ceiling going mouldy.

@Deadringer you need something more than the Cilit stuff. Like HG Mould spray or foam. It's a bit dfferent and does a bit more, kills of more of the spores etc.

Mould can and will grow through the primer if it has a strong enough foothold. I work in rented properties and see bathroom mould every day and often ask decorators what they would use if it were their own home. Answer is usually just HG mould spray and wait to see if it does need a second spray (not often needed) then redecorate.

No, bathroom hardly gets steamy, just open window, our heating is on all the while anyway

If your bathroom is a warm as your shower is hot then you either live in a hot house or have cold showers*.

There's always a difference that causes some steam!

You can have one fitted in the glass in your window. Cheaper than chopping a hole in the wall. We have 5 extractor fans in our house. They clear the moisture well, but when there is a strong wind, the outside covers bang and flap.
