Is this weird?! Chicken roast with mint and apple sauce

I like any roast with all the sauces and my friend thinks it’s weird! I like mint sauce on my veg, apple sauce on the side, and bread sauce if I’ve remembered to pick some up (tried to make some myself once, but had no cloves to hand, it was not good, bread and milk with a bit of onion! 😞). I also have to have Yorkshire puds no matter what.
What “weird” food combinations do you like and get funny looks for?!

Bit excessive on the sauce but you do you

LadyCatStark · 06/12/2021 20:58

Mint sauce belongs on all meat!

BitBroken · 06/12/2021 20:59

Not At all! Need cranberry too!

gogohm · 06/12/2021 20:59

Are you my dd? She likes everything on all roast type meals

Lime37 · 06/12/2021 21:01

No that’s normal I love condiments tho.

I wouldn’t but ketchup Mayo or brown sauce on tho

SummaLuvin · 06/12/2021 21:02

revolting

Chocolatewheatos · 06/12/2021 21:04

I don't like those sauces but YANBU all roast foods belong on all roast dinners. I can't be doing with set partnerships. Chuck it all on.

VestaTilley · 06/12/2021 21:10

YABU. Apple sauce with chicken is fine, but not mint! And Yorkshire pudding just goes with beef!

ArblemarchTFruitbat · 06/12/2021 21:12

Apple yes, mint no IMO. My sister's DP has mint sauce on everything though.

Datsandcogs · 06/12/2021 21:16

Chicken, bread sauce.
Beef, yorkshires and horseradish sauce.
Pork, no thanks, apple sauce if you do.
Lamb, mint sauce.

I understand that people like yorkshires with other meats but mostly I don’t mix they accompaniments between the meats.

AngelonTopoftheTree · 06/12/2021 21:16

Spaghetti bolognese with sweet chilli sauce and coleslaw- writing it down makes it sound disgusting, but I love it.

Precisely.

Eat, wear, read, listen to and think what you want.

Marmalade on sausages. Sounds weird but really works

DementedPanda · 06/12/2021 21:30

It's funny as I was just saying to dh on Sunday.. if mustard or horseradish is for beef, mint for lamb, apple for pork, cranberry for turkey... what's foe boring roast chicken?

Burgerqueenbee · 06/12/2021 21:30

My husband is like this, and will also have baconnaise and chilli sauce 🤢
I never have any sauces with a roast though, gravy is enough!

BarryTheKestrel · 06/12/2021 21:34

I'm a horseradish fiend and will have it with any gravy featured meal... Roast, pie, toad in the hole, Stew.

Happy to have a Yorkshire pudding with anything with gravy too.

Other sauces, happy to chuck on if they are around. I'm definitely not stuck on any roast rules.

welshladywhois40 · 06/12/2021 21:35

Mint sauce on my roast potatoes - always

nancybotwinbloom · 06/12/2021 21:36

Well today for lunch I had nacho chilli cheese dip on my broccoli and sprouts (veg left from last nights tea) and it was lovely. If I hadn't of had the dip I'd of had mint sauce or horseradish.

misskatamari · 06/12/2021 21:37

How are there so many votes for unreasonable!

I’m firmly in the mint and yorkshires with all camp. And we have jam. Didn’t have cranberry sauce once, so got the raspberry jam out instead so now we always just use jam. dh is partial to ikea blueberry jam with his roast :)

Speaking of ikea - lingonberry jam with all! I often have fish and chips there, with jam, tartare sauce and ikea gravy on the chips. Yum!

TheVanguardSix · 06/12/2021 21:46

lingonberry or cranberry with horseradish.

honeylemonteaforme · 06/12/2021 21:47

I like mint sauce on my chicken roast.
Not on turkey though

fingersdoublecrossed · 06/12/2021 21:52

I love all the traditional sauces - mint, cranberry, redcurrant, apple, wholegrain mustard, horseradish, etc. My veg needs them!!
I stir them through tins of chunky soup as well! Yum yum, in my tum!

Mydietstartstomorrow · 06/12/2021 22:33

Glad I’m not the only one! Never heard of lingonberry though *googling now
