It's painful to watch this evil selfish person put on this fake act/lies/complete opposite life around people that seemingly seem to be falling for it?

IME and IMO, I believe it is highly likely these people will continue to lie and deflect, and that most other people will continue believe them. They tend to be convincing and charming, and most people don't get to see the bad bits underneath the surface. Unless you are willing and able to confront this person, I recommend you let it go and just watch what happens.

I recently discovered that someone who had treated many people badly, including my family and I, has spectacularly shown what awful behavior they are capable of. I withstood and ignored several years of slander and deflection from this person, and although in a way it feels good to be finally justified, I feel deeply sorry for this person, too. They have nobody and nothing left, really.
