To think my DPs work are wrong in this covid guidance

My DP just had covid and self isolated for 10 days as per the guidance of test and trace.

His work are saying that he can’t go into work until he has a negative LFT but the issue is you can test positive for months after having covid 🤷🏻‍♀️ He doesn’t get sick pay!

He’s got some residual symptoms but that’s normal after covid. Aibu to think his work are wrong? Surely if that was the case then no one would be able to go back to work for months if they had covid 🤷🏻‍♀️

Yes they are wrong. It specifically says on the government website you shouldn't do an LFT within 90 days of a positive result.

LittleOwl153 · 06/12/2021 16:43

Yes they are wrong. Lft's shouldn't be used for 90 days after testing positive for covid, and PCRs only used within that time frame if there are a fresh set of symptoms- only bookable through 119.

It is highly likely he will still get a positive lft if he tests after 10/14 days. (However water doesn't test positive if he needs proof to be able to get back earning...)

Oh and he is entitled to ssp from day 1 if he has proof of covid... unless his employers are pulling a fast one!

MegaClutterSlut · 06/12/2021 16:44

Yep they're wrong!

LittleOwl153 · 06/12/2021 16:45

The 90 day information will also be in the email he got sent when he spoke to track and trace after the positive result.

Laughingstock91 · 06/12/2021 16:46

Honestly they are just taking the piss- this has apparently come from their health & safety team too 🤷🏻‍♀️

Do they mean a negative PCR test?

Willyoujustbequiet · 06/12/2021 17:35

I had covid and was back testing negative a week into isolation

Idontevenknow · 06/12/2021 17:39

They are wrong, no testing within 90 days

Forgetaboutme · 06/12/2021 17:42

Doesn't sound right but I suppose your husband can try an LFT? My son tested positive last week and it was very clear on his LFTs that he was positive. We tried him today and it was negative. If that fails get your husband to take a PCR maybe.

SoftPillow · 06/12/2021 17:48

We all had negative lateral flows before the end of 10 days.

The 90 day advice is PCR

Hankunamatata · 06/12/2021 17:49

Isnt it only a lft within 90 days if they become symptomatic again

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 06/12/2021 17:52

Has he done an LFT and had it come up positive in the last 24 hrs?

The guidance is wrong and I understand your frustration, but it's likely if he does a test it will now show negative results so the whole discussion may well be a non-starter.

If he does the test and it shows positive then absolutely discuss with them that their guidance is incorrect, but you may save yourself a whole load of bother by just sticking a swab up his nose and waiting 30 minutes for a result.

Eightandahalfyears · 06/12/2021 17:59

Yes they are wrong but can’t you just say he has had a negative LFT?

ElBandito · 06/12/2021 18:34

PCR is 90 days.
Lateral flow is not. Have you tested him to see if he's negative on a lateral flow now?

BigRedDuck · 06/12/2021 18:37

Yes they are wrong. However my DHs work said this too, he's on day 8 and got a negative LFT today despite testing positive a week ago on a PCR. Give it a go but yes they are wrong x

Gwrach · 06/12/2021 18:43

Just produce a negative LTF by simply dropping the solution on to the spot and letting it soak up the test. You'll get the control line and a negative result.

My service users do this all the time, to the point we had to witness them doing the test correctly for things like hospital appointments and court 🤦🏻‍♀️

I mean obviously it's untrue but if he's not getting sick pay and has done his 10 days, what else are you gonna do, you can't go bankrupt!
