Do I need a sick note?

Hello

I work in healthcare and had a short period of absence. However, I think I have technically will have had 8 calendar days off when I resume despite only missing 1 working day. (Shift worker)

I have never been off before so am unsure of how being off sick works.

I will go back tomorrow and last worked Sunday night shift (so finished Monday morning).

I had some virus but flu like, bed bound for many days and still not right but well enough for work (PCR was negative)

Thanks

You can self cert for 7 days. This is sick for 7 days in a row including none working days/weekends/bank Holidays.
If you have been sick for 8 days then you will need a Dr's note.

In my area of the NHS we book sick and then book fit before the shift we plan to work. So for example I book sick on Monday afternoon for my Monday night shift, but I'm not then scheduled to be back in work until Friday day shift. If I book fit on Thursday for example, I've missed 1 actual shift and had 3 calender days of sickness (Monday Tuesday Wednesday)

Do you need to book fit? And if so you should have 7 days calender sickness as today should not count unless you were scheduled to work today. Hope that makes sense.
