Last night I went to a nightclub with my friend. Whilst there we ended up close to an over-enthusiastic dancer (male). He knocked into us a few times but we weren’t phased as he was having fun and it is a rock club we were at so it’s to be expected. We moved out of his way a bit to avoid getting knocked too much, but then he jumped in the air and literally landed on me, he elbowed my head and spilt my entire drink. I had a bit of a go at him, nothing major just saying he should be careful and had hurt me and wasted my drink. He apologised and that was that.
But then out of nowhere came Random Guy, who had no connection with me or dancer guy. At first glance I thought he was a bouncer (he had a beanie hat on) and had seen what happened and come to check I was ok. But he leaned in and said “You do realise you’re in a fucking nightclub and might get knocked into every so often, get over yourself and calm the fuck down”. Then he walked off. I was truly stunned and actually felt quite upset as it was so unexpected and I’ve never had anything like this happen before.
I’m amazed he even saw what happened, it really wasn’t a massive scene and when I was telling off dancer guy it was fairly subtle, even my friend wasn’t sure if I had a go at him or had been joking with him about it.
Is he right, should I have just left it when it happened and not said anything. I’ve been in this club a lot and never been knocked into like that, it’s not normal there. And did he even have any right to get involved and mansplain the concept of nightclubs to me?!
