This is very very strange..
Just pulled this out of exhaust and it looks like there's more in there.
Haven't got a clue what it could be, any ideas?

Have you pissed off any neighbours recently? Could they have stuck something up it?

Mabelface · 05/12/2021 13:08

I think it's something to do with the cat convertor.

Thamesis · 05/12/2021 13:10

I recently had this - thought I'd run over a panto dameGrin

It's part of the silencer/muffler in your exhaust. You might notice exhaust being slightly noisier?

It doesn't affect emissions but your garage will check that anyway at next MOT.

I think it means your exhaust will need replacing at some stage. Mine did same but my car on way out so I'm not replacing.

Apparently it's called Muffler Hair

Felix125 · 05/12/2021 13:14

Its used in the silencer to muffle the noise from the engine/exhaust.
Its a sign that your silencer is breaking apart inside and needs replacing - its just an age thing of the exhaust and nothing bad about the car in general

God I’ve not see that for years! It’s just the inside of the exhaust coming out. I had it too. I thought someone had put doll hair or a wig up there! But no, it’s just the innards coming out.

You need a new exhaust or that section of exhaust if yours is in two or three sections rather than one section.

Kamelion · 05/12/2021 13:47

Is it a bird’s nest? When did you last use your car?

Lonelydaisy · 05/12/2021 20:31

Thanks everyone! I would of never of worked it out on my own, honestly thought it was a Halloween wig!
