To think I can't be the only one

Whose eyes stream at the slightest cold breeze!

I'm sure I look like a madwoman on the school run but once the weather turns cold and breezy I look like I'm crying! Constantly having to wipe my eyes. It's ridiculous.

AIBU to think I'm not the only one who's eyes water from the cold?

This is me but my nose instead. Every morning I'm there with tissues "do you have a cold?" No I'm just leaking from my nose today thanks!

Christmasbutmakeitspooky · 03/12/2021 17:51

YANBU, my eyes are super sensitive and I cry in the wind too

vonniee · 03/12/2021 17:55

Happens to me all the time. I’ve had people approach me on trains and in cafes asking if I’m ok.

pigsDOfly · 03/12/2021 17:57

Yeah, me too.

Also happens sometimes when I eat hot soup.

I'll be eating lunch and have to go in search of a tissue to mop up my nose. Very annoying.

Christmas3143 · 03/12/2021 17:58

Dd is very much the same. Her eyes stream in the cold and wind, her face all red and blotchy too.

As for me, the wind makes my nose run like a tap. Constantly have to wipe my nose. People probably think I am ill 🤷‍♀️

tallduckandhandsome · 03/12/2021 18:00

What is the answer? Ski goggles?

GetTheFlockOutOfHere · 03/12/2021 18:01

Happens to everyone I think!

Bakingwithmyboys · 03/12/2021 18:07

Feel very reassured it's not just me!

Just never seen anyone else on the school run having to wipe tears away from their eyes. 🤣🤣

This has started happening to me in the last year so at my last optician appointment I picked quite a large frame, job somewhat solved... Well it would be if I wore them Grin

NinjaPig · 03/12/2021 18:17

I'm a parent and I don't get angry if I can get Christmas off, I chose to have children and I chose to work for the NHS, knowing its have to cover these periods.

My brother gets angry on my behalf as he feels I should be allowed the time off — he doesn't understand why I'm so chilled about it

NinjaPig · 03/12/2021 18:18

Wrong thread!!!!!

Wisewordswouldhelp · 03/12/2021 18:19

Yes all the time v embarrassing!

BusySittingDown · 03/12/2021 18:20

My nose runs. Even in summer, it's so annoying!

december212 · 03/12/2021 18:26

I had this - one eye is especially bad if it's really hot or reallt cold. I used hycosan night ointment and drops throughout the summer to help repair the tear film in my eyes. I hardly use the drops now but my eyes are much better than they used to be.

Twospaniels · 03/12/2021 18:31

My husband is the same, eyes streaming in any breeze, nose running when eating, not just spicy food, any food!

My work colleagues has sensitive eyes and wears sunglasses outside at all times which she says helps.

Qwaffee · 03/12/2021 18:36

Me too!! I always have tissues tucked in pockets and up sleeves as my eyes and nose stream when I go outside. Takes me about half an hour to acclimatise.

coronafiona · 03/12/2021 21:06

Try dry eye drops. Cold and wind make dry eyes worse. And yes streaming eyes actually can be dry.

FinallyHere · 03/12/2021 21:41

Curiously, the optician mentioned my eyes streaming at my eye test this afternoon.

Suggested that ideally eyes are lubricated by a mixture (emulsion) of water and oil from the glands at root of the eyelashes.

It appears some of these glands in my eyes are blocked, so do not excrete oil. No oil to retain water in emulsion means the water just runs out of my eyes.

The solution suggested is to try a warm compress over my eyes for 10mins twice a day to eventually unblock all the glands.

I'm only in day 1 so have no idea whether it works.

Gatekeeper · 03/12/2021 21:43

Me! Streaming eyes and runny drippy nose. Pure glamour!

This is what a friend calls "old woman's runny nose", going from outside to inside, nose runs. I was not best pleased the first time she said it to me but she is right!
FangsForTheMemory · 03/12/2021 21:50

Mine do, also they stream when I'm tired.

NovemberNovemberDarkNights · 03/12/2021 21:53

No, it's awful with ski goggles, they just mist up!!

Ah that would be great if it works, can you keep updating us please.
Thingsthatgo · 03/12/2021 21:55

It seems to run in my family, only the women though. We text each other in the morning sometimes; ‘Excellent wye streaming day today!’

DH has this which caused blepharitis, the warm compress really works and he uses blephaclean wipes and it's helped massively. Hope it helps you!

I get a really runny nose when going between temperatures, which is great when you stand in the cold and get on a hot train with a mask on. Then it starts again when I get off the train into the cold! Bloody miserable!
