To not be able to believe my luck!

I’ve been a SAHM for many years. Desperately needed to get back to work but worried about not working for so long and thought I’d only be able to get a crap job, used to dream of being able to WFH before Covid and when it happened was thinking how wonderful it would be if I could land a WFH job. Quite envious of DD as she has been WFH all through it.

Anyway. I applied for a few jobs a few months ago not thinking I’d get anywhere but got offered one. At the time I thought it would be office based but it turns out everyone WFH and there are no plans to go back to the office!

I cannot believe I’ve finally got a job I’ve dreamed of! Great people (all women of my age group), interesting and worthwhile content, part time flexible hours. a salary which will massively improve our situation and great benefits. The best thing is I don’t have to dress in uncomfortable office clothes, get stuck in traffic and can stay in my own home! Also we are all constantly talking to each other on teams so it’s not lonely.

AIBU to keep pinching myself Grin.

ChangeChingyChange · 03/12/2021 16:41

How lovely good for you (sounds sarky but 100% isn't!!) I do enjoy working from home too and used to dream of it. Only good thing to come out of covid.

ResentfulAF · 03/12/2021 16:42

I would like a job exactly like this OP!! What industry are you in? What kind of role of you don't mind me asking? Congratulations!!

LuckyLuckyMee · 03/12/2021 16:42

Thank you @2020nymph. I’ve just finished my first week and it’s so relaxed.

Feels so odd as when I used to work I had a long commute, constantly had to deal with people and had to be totally professional all the time. This is just amazing.

I can even fart if I want to!

That’s so lovely to hear.
I changed jobs in November and I would have sad I quite liked my job but I really really love my new one.
I hardly even care when it’s Sunday night any more

LuckyLuckyMee · 03/12/2021 16:50

I used to worry so much about starting a new job and being around people in an office after so long at home but there’s no nervousness at all! No one looking over my shoulder, not having to worry about how I look.

I just can’t get over it!

Grin I used to always have a thing about bad breath so I'd constantly be chomping sugar free mints at work and would be careful about what I had for lunch (used to have meetings 1 on 1 with clients in a closed door office so thats why) now I can do whatever I like and hardly ever buy mints. I think I've saved about £10 a month on mints Grin

That’s amazing news! Congratulations 🎉

ThinWomansBrain · 03/12/2021 18:05

congratulations - Enjoy!
will you get the opportunity to meet your new colleagues face to face on occasions? I started a new role in the summer, and do find meeting up occasionally creates better work relarionships.

AnGofsMum · 03/12/2021 18:27

Congratulations! Sounds amazing. I’m going for a promotion in the new year and am hoping that I can ask for flexible working from home for at least some of the week. Not sure at what point of the application/interview process I should ask really.

DuckbilledSplatterPuff · 03/12/2021 18:40

Congratulations!

Georgyporky · 03/12/2021 18:40

Congratulations.
It's so nice to read a post with good news .

LuckyLuckyMee · 03/12/2021 18:40

Thanks for all the congratulations Flowers.

It’s an admin role in child and family services of a large healthcare organisation (not NHS) working with police and SS. I used to work in financial services admin which bored me to death, this role is completely different!

Sounds fab! All the best. Smile I work from home - only since covid - and love it working from home. We are allowed to go back to the office if we want. I work 6 hours a day/3 days a week, (18 hours,) and go in the office for 1 day a fortnight.
