I am making a real effort to drink less. My alcohol consumption really crept up over lockdown and lead to poor health and me feeling dreadful. I've now been alcohol free for a couple of months and am really proud of this.

However, Christmas is difficult when you don't drink! This will be my first alcohol free Christmas and I'd love to have some suggestions of some enjoyable drinks so I don't feel like I'm missing out.

Thanks!

I absolutely love the Clean & Co tequila. It tastes so much like tequila that I slightly panicked while drinking it. I make amazing margaritas with it and it's really taken the edge off being off the booze.

bettybadger · 03/12/2021 13:32

Another vote for Martini (Floreale really tastes like proper vermouth and is lovely with tonic - the other one is not quite as good but ok) - much cheaper than a lot of AF spirits

Other interesting AF drinks - Everleaf Forest and Seedlip Garden (I might be alone in liking the last one - it's a bit weird!) - they're not trying to be anything else do you don't get the disappointment! Grin

Sour cherry juice looks the part for a red wine replacement - the Biona one is nice and tart

Best cordial is Frobishers Mint and Lemon (also fab with Pimms and fizzy water for the occasions you are drinking)

I drink tonic without the Gin if I was a non alcoholic drink.
There are some really nice ones available

ISaidDontLickTheBin · 03/12/2021 13:33

Fever tree tonic waters
Punk AF (non alcoholic beer)
Soda water with big wedges of lemon and lime
San Pellegrino cans - my faves are the lemon & mint or the blood orange
Fentimans rose lemonade (very sweet though)

I love Rochester Ginger from Holland and Barrett. If you like spirits it'll knock your socks off. There's the same kick to it and so warming after a winter walk.
They also do a rum and raisin drink and a lovely mulled berry punch at Christmas.

I drank a lot of Bottle Green cordials during my pregnancy- I love the slow and juniper and the rhubarb with a hint of ginger. I'd have in a big gin glass with ice and lots of tonic

Scbchl · 03/12/2021 15:35

I like soda or lemonade with blackcurrant. You could also get some nosecco.

seadreams · 03/12/2021 15:36

I made the most delicious non alcoholic sangria for a baby shower last summer and because it’s cranberry and ginger based it gives off Christmas vibes as well!

You just mix
1 cup ice cubes
1/4 pineapple, cut into wedges (I used frozen pineapple)
1/2 small orange, thinly sliced, cut into wedges
1 passionfruit, quartered
500ml cranberry juice
500ml ginger beer
1/2 cup fresh mint leaves

You just add it all up in a pitcher and it tasted unbelievable! There’s no need for exact measurements but that’s what the recipe I followed gives

I agree with a PP who said Sainsbury's non-alcoholic bubbly. Not too fruity and works well in prosecco / champagne based cocktails as well.

Also like Becks Blue and tend to have that over other beer as it's lower in cals :-)

WhatWouldKalindaDo · 03/12/2021 16:04

Some fantastic suggestions! Looking forward to trying them out.

Thanks so much, really glad I asked now!

Freixenet does a decent sparkling Rose, the sparkling White and most other White. taste just awful.

Cawston Press is a decent sparkling apple juice, not as sweet as Appletiser as it's made with water. Alternatively, find a good juice you like and mix with cold sparking water.

I love a cloudy lemonade but so many are now made with sweetener, so it's difficult to. find one which taste. nice. The National Trust sells a good one in their cafe but I always. forget to check the brand.

Virgin Mojitos are lovely if not made with apple juice.

evtheria · 03/12/2021 17:15

@DedalusBloom Have you tried Gunna drinks? They do a cola ginger, and a ginger lemonade. Both are quite good and contain sugar (and the tiniest bit of sucralose, last on ingredients list!). I bought them from Poundstretcher but H&B sell them.

PoppyGG · 03/12/2021 17:15

Monin syrups are really good too. They have literally dozens of flavours.
My favourites are the Mojito Mint (add lime juice, soda water, mint leaves for a lovely Virgin Mojito) and the Amaretto (add to lattes etc.).

Just found out I'm pregnant so following this closely! I liked the 0% rose freixenet last time.

GenMatria · 03/12/2021 17:23

Im also a tee totaller, bit this is because of being recently put on topamax as a preventative for migraines. Which has "the added benefit of not being sblento taste the fizzyness" or carbonation in drinks. So coke zero tastes like flat vinegary off coke 🤮

So watching this thread for the non carbonated non alchoholic cpuld be mistaken for alchohol grown up juice not bloody vimto or fruit shoot shite
😂

Stretchandsnap · 03/12/2021 17:26

I’m obsessed with bottle green elderflower and fizzy water with lots of ice - it’s my go to now that I rarely drink as it wrecks my sleep

harmonyhall · 03/12/2021 17:27

Appletiser

MondayYogurt · 03/12/2021 17:47

Japanese barley tea. Make a big jug and refrigerate. No caffeine, kids can drink it.

countrygirl99 · 03/12/2021 18:05

@dedalusBloom Sainsbury's have the rxtra fiery but it's in the West Indian section not with the soft drinks.

SocksAndTheCity · 03/12/2021 18:09

Dr Pepper with fresh lime juice in it. Game changer Grin

FangsForTheMemory · 03/12/2021 18:11

Rose's lime cordial (accept no substitute) and soda. It's also cheap as chips

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 03/12/2021 18:18

Fevertree and Fentimans do nice fizzy drinks - flavoured tonics and cola. The Fevertree ones tend to be light drinks, using sweeteners, whilst the Fentimans ones are full sugar. I like the pink grapefruit and pink rhubarb flavoured Fentimans tonics.

randomsabreuse · 03/12/2021 18:23

Fever Tree sodas and tonics. Nix and Kix. Fentimans sodas.

Alcohol Free Leffe is my favourite alcohol free beer, followed by Peroni Libero.

I liked the Nosecco, but my favourite alcohol free fizzy wine was Aldi's zero point zero, typically for Aldi not seen it since...

Oblomov21 · 03/12/2021 18:41

Watching. For Dry January.

crummyusername · 03/12/2021 18:44

Lime and soda is refreshing and not sweet (fresh lime, not cordial).
