postman and WFH

I know this has been discussed before but can't find previous thread

My postman would not stop knocking earlier and the dog was going nuts.

I work from home and I was in the middle of a v important presentation to a client so I ignored the door.

for info, postman knows I work from home. If I can answer, I do, but I also have a parcel box and a sign on door saying to leave parcels in parcel box.

He ignored this today. Kept knocking. Dog getting more and more barky. Had to make apologies to the client to go an answer. Very big client, huge company, biggest deal in 3 years if we got this client.

The parcels didn't need to be signed for. Nothing valuable or mega expensive. Could have gone in parcel box.

I was also working upstairs at back of house. All lights downstairs off to make it look like no one at home. So not like he could see there was someone at home.

But he kept knocking and knocking and knocking.

AIBU to be really pissed off?

I know he's doing his job but his job includes putting parcels in a parcel box surely!

YABU. He’s doing his job and the world can’t stop just because you decided to set up office in a home environment.

WheelieBinPrincess · 02/12/2021 12:36

Oh yeah I do feel your pain though.

My postman knows I’m at home with my 11 week old baby. There are six flats in this block and I’m the parcel-keeper for ALL of them 🙄

nannybeach · 02/12/2021 12:36

I worked 5 nights a week, put a sign on the door saying I was in bed,do not disturb. In the end,had a fancy plastic one made.People STILL knocked on the bloody door. You could try this though. Just a big DO NO DISTURB sign

0palescent · 02/12/2021 12:37

Yanbu, but I'd have also put a note on the door to say please do not knock unless it's an emergency.

Viviennemary · 02/12/2021 12:38

Yawn. This has been done to death.

Chikapu · 02/12/2021 13:06

There's an awful lot of postie hate around lately.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 02/12/2021 13:09

Yanbu

You’ve set it all up so there’s no need to knock. Knocking once is maybe one thing, but banging the blooming door down is another.

I find the same with Amazon- why can’t they either knock once or ring the bell? Why does it need to be both, and repeated knocking? Often they just bugger off before you’ve got to the door but not before making you jump out of your skin with the incredibly loud banging?

Peace43 · 02/12/2021 13:12

Mine does the flaming same. He knows I'm home. During Covid lockdowns he just let stuff in the box. Box still there, sign still there but now he jst knocks and knocks and knocks until I evenutally excise myself from a call. I open the door and he says "hope you weren't busy here's your stuff".... Nothing needs signing for. So frustrating.

MadeOfStarStuff · 02/12/2021 13:13

YANBU

Knocking once is reasonable and the noise is just part of working from home.

To keep knocking repeatedly is unreasonable except in an emergency (and a parcel is not an emergency!). I’m surprised they bothered though tbh, most delivery drivers are keen to be away as quick as possible! I’ve had stuff left in my porch before without them knocking at all (which is absolutely fine with me).

KateInHappyland · 02/12/2021 13:15

Could you pop a note on the door when you know you have important calls or meetings? Just a polite ‘please do not knock’?
Stick it on the knocker if needed, to make it really obvious.

Same360 · 02/12/2021 13:15

The problem is if they just knock once people constantly complain and say ‘Oh he didn’t even knock!’

Pazuzu · 02/12/2021 13:35

Postie knocks...THEY'RE DISTURBING ME

Postie doesn't knock...I'VE GOT TO REARRANGE RANT RAVE

End of the day, they've got a load more places to deliver to and they haven't got time to wait for you. They are working just like you are.

Nanny0gg · 02/12/2021 13:36

His job is to deliver the post. He was able to do that without knocking

So instead of waiting he could have put the parcel in the parcel box and gone on his merry way.
notapineapple · 02/12/2021 13:42

Are you sure one wasn't a special delivery? You wouldn't sign as posties are doing the signing now but it still can't be left in a box, must be handed to customer.

Bunnycat101 · 02/12/2021 13:54

I wonder if they’ve had some guidance to keep knocking. All the other delivery drivers just leave stuff at the door step but our newish postie keeps hammering the door and I’ve had to leave lots of calls. It’s v annoying. Our old one used to knock once and leave the parcels at the door.

amazeandastonish · 02/12/2021 14:17

it wasn't special delivery or recorded delivery

my door sign says "please do not knock, working from home, please put parcels in parcel box' - I got it specially made

My postie is usually cool but today he wasn't cool

Our Hermes lady puts all parcels in the parcel box no bother after I politely asked her too. Parcel box is a huge cannot miss it box by the door with a sign on top saying 'parcel box'

Postmen, bin men and women, what ever next Smile

SickAndTiredAgain · 02/12/2021 14:23

YANBU.
But also, even though he knows you wfh, he doesn’t know you were in that specific moment, you could have been at an appointment or something and he’s just wasting his time knocking for ages.

yaboreme · 02/12/2021 14:24

Suggest he does what my postman did, no answer, so he opened the door and threw the parcels in the hallway....

I was painting in the back room (adjoining to the hall).

And for those who are wondering. I didn't ok this he just took it upon himself to open my front door!!! Confused

MorningStarling · 02/12/2021 14:25

I'd have just left it, he'd have gone eventually. Even if you WFH it's theoretically possible that you might have gone out.

idontlikealdi · 02/12/2021 14:26

Wish my postman would knock more than once. I was on a very (not) important board cal the other day and the window cleaners turned up and were actually laughing through the window at me. You're at home, everyone else at home on the call would understand it's life.

BeeDavis · 02/12/2021 14:27

Why order parcels to your address if you aren’t going to answer the door??? Can’t understand why anyone would blast a postman for trying to deliver something. Do you realise how much stuff they have to deliver since covid and the fact it’s Christmas time?

Youdoyoutoday · 02/12/2021 14:28

Did you actually ask him when you answered the door?

SnackSizeRaisin · 02/12/2021 14:28

They aren't allowed to leave parcels unless it's secure or out of sight. An unlocked box labelled parcel box wouldn't qualify. Different for Hermes - they can just dump them anywhere
