Christmas party!

ChristmasParty · 30/11/2021 17:51

I get the ultimate decision about if our Xmas party should be going ahead next Thursday.
It will be a big knees up, lots of booze and dancing. Sweating too as it’s fancy dress and most outfits make you sweat. Vodka luge and a sing a long schedule for some point.
We’ve got people coming in from all over the country (and one or two from abroad but we might cancel them as the timings don’t work) and have put many people up in a hotel to really make the most of the evening.

Now, people really need this. We haven’t seen each other in a while and do have a pub culture (but not only a pub culture). Everyone has worked hard, and our results are staggering good.

On the other hand, if one person has it the whole company will have it and well be up shits creek.

I was really hoping bojo gave us a bit more today. He was as underwhelming as ever.

So, aibu to go ahead with the company chrismas party?

@RedCarsGoFaster everyone can WFH no issues. Hardly anyone is in the office so I am not concerned about productivity or run rate

@Sparticle ours is the financial year, so we can push to March.

Overwhelming responses for everyone is to go ahead. Not one person said they were concerns. We are going for it!

Whats a vodka luge?

Everanewbie · 01/12/2021 15:03

Great. If people have had vaccines and do the decent thing, i.e. their lateral flows and stay away if they have symptoms, wade in and have a great time. You've earned it.

Unless you are/live with someone who is profoundly ill, jabs have turned a nasty disease into a bad cold, not something that is worth being a prisoner over.

RedHot22 · 01/12/2021 15:05

Excellent

foreverandalways · 01/12/2021 15:05

You are all crazy 😡

MrsMcCluskeysCat · 01/12/2021 15:11

Excellent have fun!

If mine was later than next Friday I would be a bit hesitant about having to isolate over Xmas but as there is 16 days before Xmas I am still happy to attend. We have actually picked up couple of extra attendees in the last few days which I didn't expect!

5128gap · 01/12/2021 15:16

It sounds amazing. If I worked for you and you cancelled I'd be gutted. Anyone thinking otherwise doesn't have to go.

Sn0tnose · 01/12/2021 15:26

What will you do if people are too ill to be wfh? Will it be a catastrophe if half of your workforce are off sick?

Personally I wouldn’t go. Both because I’m cev and because it’s too close to Christmas if one of us does get ill. But it sounds like you’re taking more precautions than the average nightclub, so maybe it will go without a hitch.

TheseBootsWereMadeForSitting · 01/12/2021 15:30

As of yesterday, there are 17 people out of our workforce of 92 who have tested positive for Covid in the last 6 days.

They've all just been going about their daily lives. No parties and such.

You go and have your big piss up. After all, you "need it".
See if you can spread it super quick.
It can be like a game, how many people can we make sick in the shortest space of time. Bonus points for all the people outside your circle you manage to infect. Triple bonus if you get a few grannies.

It's just going to be wave after wave after wave.
All the selfish bastards who think everybody should follow the rules, vaccinate, be sensible but not themselves. No, no, never them.

FestiveMelts · 01/12/2021 15:42

What a hysterically sanctimonious post. What "rules" are being broken?! Are they the rules invented by @TheseBootsWereMadeForSitting? Get over yourself.

OP has said the attendees will take lateral flows, so only uninflected people will even be there. Anyone who wants to be is also jabbed.

I'm glad there are still rational people out there prepared to spend their money on the hospitality industry at Christmas. Left to you the whole thing would go under.

FFS.

CloudyStorms · 01/12/2021 15:44

Just make sure people know they are free to opt out. And hope you don't all get covid.

You're nuts. It will never be "safe". A friend of mine has just had Covid and can't wait to get out for a big weekend away partying.

Attitudes like this are scarier than any virus.

Everanewbie · 01/12/2021 15:56

Look, I've had 3 jabs, I take a lateral flow every other day, I have PCR tests at the slightest hint of a cough or a sneeze. If I test +ve I'll isolate. But living in the world that @TheseBootsWereMadeForSitting wants is far scarier to me than any disease, let alone something so mild in the world of triple pfizers.

Its people with your views that are selfish. Those who couldn't care less about other people's right to live, and to enjoy their lives perfectly legally, as long as their own fears are minimised. What makes it worse is this hiding behind the petticoats of these fictitious 'grannies' you so patronisingly refer to, when most older people are not only going about their lives perfectly happily, but have no problem with anyone else doing so either.
Stompythedinosaur · 01/12/2021 16:01

Of course people don't need a party.

Sounds like a recipe for disaster.

ChristmasParty · 01/12/2021 16:41

@TheseBootsWereMadeForSitting If you feel so strongly about it I suggest you use your frustration for good rather than for having a go at people on an anonymous forum and write to your MP and various other bodies stating that the rules are not sufficient. We are going quite a distance above the guidelines, and as pointed out by . We are not selfish, we are not be silly either. Calling people granny killers is totally uncalled for, and actually really inappropriate.

@Sn0tnose if half the workforce was out I think we'd be ok. Obviously not ideal, but we actually have some flex in our schedule and very few business critical deliveries in December.

@Bookworm20 (and the others that asked) this is a vodka luge. It unfortunately has been cancelled and we've gone with an ice sculpture instead :(
You pour a spirit down it and drink it from the bottom and its super cold.

Christmas party!

Nicknacky · 01/12/2021 16:46

@Stompythedinosaur Of course no one “needs” a party but what is this life if you can’t have some enjoyment?

Our works party is this Saturday and we are all looking forward to it.

Okbye · 01/12/2021 16:50

Sounds like a fun party!! Can I come too please?! 😄

honeylulu · 01/12/2021 17:03

Ours is tomorrow and it's still going ahead. Reason for having it early is that Christmas is still over 3 weeks away just in case there's a flurry of infection.

It's in the office and much more low key than usual. We've been asked to lateral flow in the morning, wfh Friday and lateral flow again before coming to office next week. We've been told one wine glass per person as there will be no servers this year to limit numbers. Food is a takeaway. I'm going. Quite a few people have opted out as they don't feel comfortable and fair enough.

JustDanceAddict · 01/12/2021 17:14

Lft beforehand and bin the luge/singing.

MrsBerthaRochester · 01/12/2021 17:22

Are you all double jabbed? If so then why wouldnt you go ahead? You can catch and spread covid anywhere(what vaccine?) And the WHO are staying so far the vaccine seems to reduce risk of new variant and it only gives mild symptoms. So basically still just a mild illness for the VAST majority of folk.

Herecomesthesun70 · 01/12/2021 17:29

Ours is going ahead with a request for LFT too
Which i think is fair enough

DrManhattan · 01/12/2021 17:39

Might be in lockdown by next Wednesday
