Reporters in Bad Weather

Why is it necessary for reporters to stand in the middle of bad weather to report the bad weather? Just get indoors, preferably the pub.

I feel that way as well. Plenty of pics from CCTV photos/vids shared etc etc to show the weather.

YANBU. Have they never seen a disaster movie with bad weather? There's always a reporter who ends up meeting an unfortunate end live on air.

Were you watching the BBC news earlier?! Poor woman bracing herself against the howling wind, soaked to the skin, hair flying all over- she needs to get herself inside a warm pub next to the fire with a hot drink. I'm sure they do it to demonstrate just how bad the weather really is but I felt so sorry for her and she seemed quite pissed off really- I would be the same so I hope she is well paid and indoors now

They love the drama of being out in it all. Well maybe they don’t, but the producers do.

It's the same for everything though, reporters have to be in the location for some reason. I remember the Steve Wright case & reporters were standing near a field which was so distasteful.

One of the cats wanted to go out a couple of hours ago. Rapidly changed her mind when I opened the door for a few seconds, she involuntarily have a toothy grin and the tea towel was whipped off of the oven door 🤣

Really! Shit. We live in the NW but are away from home on a long weekend in Surrey. Jolly cold here but not windy. Now I will be wondering what is happening while we are away

It’s the same as “reporting live outside the hospital” type of news - where a famous person is being treated - pointless and it doesn’t add to the story.

We’re coastal though and usually bare the brunt. Might not be so bad further inland.

Generally the reporter is on location as they have been speaking to people there and covering the story…otherwise the news would consist of someone sitting behind a desk for 30 mins reading things off Twitter

This is one of my pet hates. Especially when they do downright dangerous things - stop risking causing bother for the emergency cases.

One I saw the last time we had flooding had the reporter right in the middle of a flooded field - we would have believed you if you were standing next to the field, or in front of it, you didn't actually have to stand in the middle of it to be believable.

Because they will have been there to speak to people, find out if that’s the case, interview the Swindon council leader, and generally do their job as a journalist which is a lot of things as well as doing a 1minute piece to camera

It does seem stupid. Especially when it's verging on dangerous.

Saying that when I'm heading off to work in a stuffy office in July and they're reporting gorgeous sunny weather from a beach in Devon or somewhere, it all balances out
