Hypocrites

Am I being unreasonable cutting off gossipy and hypocritical people - this relates to a girl I have known for 6/7 years.

I have a friend who 3 years ago met her fiance 2 weeks after being dumped by a guy. She met him on Bumble - they were engaged after a whirlwind romance after several months
When her prior relationship was breaking down I would take regular calls from her and whisked her away abroad for a trip to support her. In the two weeks she was single she went on multiple dates, had to attend her GP due to poor mental health and generally was very upset until she met her fiance. During this time she also messaged a colleague she had worked with five years before but had no communication with since to try and see if he knew anyone single to set her up with.

Now that she is safely engaged she appears to have totally dissociated from this period of her life and has no recollection of it whatsoever.

Essentially here are some examples of her behaviour towards me now in the past year -

A guy who works with my friend asked me to be set up with him - I was so excited so told this friend and she was like ‘its such a bad idea, I have never met him but I know he is not right for you’ ‘its such a bad idea being set up through a friend’.

Another example is her saying dating apps are for desperate woman and horrible men - despite her now being with someone from one. She told me to ‘not use them’

Another example is me being so excited a really attractive guy from the gym approached me and asked for my number - I texted her so excited and her only word was ‘run’.

She also alludes to me being promisicous and dating constantly - which is so far from the truth. Not that there is any issue if this would be how others conduct their life. I started outdoor swimming with my sister and I sent her a message With a pic of me in the water - she was like
‘Ohhh so who were you there with?!’ - as if I was there on a date or something. I was like ‘my sister’.
In April I had gone on a weekend away with friends and was messaging a girl from Uni - she could obviously see I was online on my whatsapp at 11pm - I get this message from her ‘oh who are you messaging at this time?! 💋💋💋’ - I was like Emma? Then the next day I got a message from her saying ‘I just feel so sorry for you, you are desperate to settle down and start a family but you cannot meet anyone no matter how hard you try’. The boys I was with were ASTOUNDED and it was at this point I started to really notice her hypocrisy.

It seems like I gave her my all and supported her during her time of need - and now all she offers is patronising and hypocritical advice going forward. My sister was like so you are not to meet anyone through a friend, a dating app or at the gym. She does not ever want you to meet anyone?

A couple of months ago I had a shit week at work and was getting messages from her in the morning - slagging off someones wedding - I just had enough and was entirely saturated with her chat - so I politey let her know I would not be able to speak with her or see her for a while due to focusing on other things.

AIBU to think this relationship is now totally toxic and cut it off for good?

What a lot of unnecessary drama

FangsForTheMemory · 26/11/2021 17:02

I don't understand why you bothered with her at all.

Funnylittlefloozie · 26/11/2021 17:04

She sounds like a complete plank. I would just focus on your other friends.

Quite childish all round. Are you very young?

My non drama grown up friends said they are surprised I tolerated her for so long

Thirties - I am very mature but she was very sheltered, privileged growing up
