Secret Santa

We are having a Secret Santa this year at work. All good, no stupid presents or jokes or anything.

The guidance is that you must bring it in and put it in Santa's sack at least 72 hours before they are handed out on the day of the Christmas lunch "because of covid".

AIBU to think this is real overkill?

Well if someone was off it would be less secret wouldn't if ?

YABU It’s a reasonable request even aside from covid, it prevents the “oh I forgot”/someone being off sick excuses that end up with someone being left out

Last time we did a work secret Santa (pre covid) all gifts had to be in a few days before the event.

Our box has already been out for a week. So we can put them in

There isn't a deadline but I can see their point. Theres always some who forget or dont bring one for whatever reason and in this way you can also ensure everyone gets something- the manager buys some extra gifts in case someone doesnt have a secret Santa
