Apologies for the long post but please stay with me!
My partner and I moved into our flat 11 months ago and have been unable to ascertain who our gas supplier is. We have used “find my supplier” and called the helpline however it lists all 4 flats in the building as “ground floor flat” so it is impossible to differentiate between the flats. There are 4 flats in the building. All 4 of the gas meters do not have any serial numbers on at all. (We did do a burns test so we are 90% sure which one is ours but who bloody knows) We have waited until we get a gas bill but this has not come through even after 11 months. (When I called the gas distributor for help they advised to just wait for a bill). No supplier is able to take us without the MPRN - again because the data base lists all 4 flats as “ground floor flat” we can’t tell which one is ours. We have tried to contact the previous owner through the estate agent but no luck and we have scoured through all paper work from when the flat was bought to no avail. We have contacted Wales and west utilities and they were unable to tell us either without the meter reference number or a serial number. Again NONE of the gas meters have serial numbers on them at all. So at this point we have not paid a gas bill for over 11 months and have gotten no further. Asking the other 3 flats who they are with to deduce who our supplier is isn’t an option as some are empty. We have spoken to one flat owner who kindly told us who their supplier was however that leaves us with the other 2 flats which again are empty so no one to ask. What can we do?? I’m worried that if the bill ever does come through it will be huge and also with the rising price of gas prices I’m tempted to just give up in the hope the bill never comes.
I’ve asked on many forums for help with this, called endless helplines and have gotten nowhere. AIBU to just give up??
Side note - I have been putting money aside each month, I am willing to pay the bill but I just feel like I’m doing a lot of leg work just to find my gas supplier.
