Period Help!

AlwaysLonely · 22/11/2021 13:40

Posting for traffic!

I was due to come on on Wednesday but have unexpectedly had my period start today Sad

I have been prescribed Utovlan to delay my period as I have an event this weekend, which I am due to collect later this afternoon.
Does anyone know if I start taking Utovlan, whether it will make my period stop?
Pleeease help, could really do with delaying my period if i can!

Thank you in advance Flowers

What does the leaflet which comes with it say?

I don't know, I collect the prescription this afternoon but have just gone into a panic as i am at work and my period has just started!

Your best bet is to ask the pharmacist when you collect it.

I'm afraid you'd probably be too late to start it anyway as you need to start taking utovlan 3 days before your period is due, which would have been yesterday morning.

CurzonDax · 22/11/2021 13:53

No experience of the pill myself, but did a Google search, and this came up:

www.theindependentpharmacy.co.uk/period-delay/utovlan#:~:text=Utovlan%20cannot%20be%20used%20to,Heavy%2C%20painful%20or%20irregular%20periods

Seems to imply that it can't be used to stop a period, but agree with the above - definitely speak to the Pharmacist when you pick it up.

how long do your periods normally last? Is there any chance that it may be over before your weekend event?

Aargh, thank you Sad

It's crap being female! I will definitely speak with the pharmacist though, just in case.

It is crap! But if the event isn't til this weekend then hopefully the worst of your period should be done by Friday (?). Assuming you have an average cycle.

Do speak with the pharmacist in any case, they might have something else you could try.

Ahh feck Sad

Will definitely speak to the pharmacist.
Normal periods can last up to 8 days-ish as they start really slow so if they follow the usual pattern, I'll be in full flow (pardon the pun) by Friday night which is will just be really crap.

Depending on how long your period usually lasts it might be finished by the weekend or at least be tapering off and not cause too much disruption hopefully 🤞

Feel free to tell me to piss off but can I ask what the event is, genuinely intrigued Blush

I was going to suggest a mooncup if it was a sporting event but that definitely won’t help with the hot sex! Can you not rearrange for the following weekend?

StormyCornishSeas · 22/11/2021 14:15

It worked for me 2 weeks ago. I went on it closer to the event like the day before but even so af was so much lighter. By the weekend from today it would have stopped

DoucheCanoe · 22/11/2021 14:29

Ah well, that's definitely worth it then 😁

Ahh music to my ears!! Thank you!

I have just called the and spoke to the pharmacist and they said to start taking them from when I collect and they may still stop my period so fingers crossed

@BeardieWeirdie unfortunately not, I have no childcare help and this Friday night is my first child-free night in what seems like forever.

Your period will have finished by the weekend though?

BashfulClam · 22/11/2021 14:32

How long will your period last, it might be gone by the weekend. Mine used to lady 11 days now it’s 4 (although really heavy).

MeltedButter · 22/11/2021 14:32

When I went on depo once I had a really long period and docs prescribed me some meds to stop the bleed. Sorry I can't remember what it's called but it may be worth speaking to your GP about it as they can probs prescribe something else.

AlwaysLonely · 22/11/2021 14:35

My periods can last up 6-8 days-ish as they start really slow and the first 2-3 days tend to be old blood so by Friday, it'd be in full flow Sad

Ah you'll just have to put a towel down.

AlwaysLonely · 22/11/2021 16:31

So, the jury's out on whether this will work; I'm reading conflicting stuff on the net.

However, I've picked up the medication and taken the first one and will continue as directed and hope and pray they work.
Lord knows I'm in need of a sensational shag!

Thank you for all the responses, please your fingers crossed for me! 🙏🏾

I’m sure there was a mooncup thread a while ago where someone said she uses a sponge and it’s fine during sex. I can’t remember what site she linked to though.

dillydallydollydaydream7 · 22/11/2021 18:27

This happened to me years ago before my first foreign holiday! I took them as expected and was still on my period but it was a lot lighter
