To use tin foil on my slow cooker as lid is broken?

Lid to slow cooker has smashed.

Replacements cost about the same as a new slow cooker.

Do you think I'd be able to cook a chilli in there if I double layer wrapped tin foil over the top as a makeshift lid?

Thoughts welcome! May need to bite the bullet and get a new one in Black Friday sales but don't use it often and seems a waste

Yes, I’d a big plate. I did this with my old one when the lid broke and I needed to use it. No problem, worked like a charm.

I sometimes use a frying pan as a pan lid. If my slo cooker lid broke, I'd try the tinfoil and frying pan on top. I don't think tinfoil on its own would be sufficient. Plate's a good idea too, but I'd wind up burning my fingers.

Probably just rest a plate on top and maybe a folded up tea towel on top of that for extra insulation. You can also use the tea towel to lift the lid without burning your fingers.

Double tin foil tightly scrunched around the edges of the slow cooker to prevent steam escaping, then fold a clean towel so it’s just bigger than the top of the slow cooker and place on top of the foil, then cover with another sheet of foil to keep in place. This will insulate the contents and ensure that the heat is held in.

I could use a pan or plate but it's a 6.5L one so there would still be gaps at either end but I guess the foil would cover that anyway.

I'll give it a go and see how I get on.

We had this problem with our rice cooker and found an old lid to a large pan. It fits well enough and we have been using it for years now.
