My incredibly kind daughter although not poor has 2 teenagers so has to be careful with money. So when it comes to Christmas and birthdays I always try to buy them all nice presents this is I want to not for any other reason.
However when she asks me I try to think of something that is low cost. She has said that I make her feel mean, I am now wondering if I am being unreasonable.

I know what you mean. You don't want them spending a lot on you because you'd genuinely rather they had it...but she also wants the pleasure of giving.

Try to go a bit higher in your range...think of it as a kindness.
