To think Test and Trace is now utterly obscene?

I’ve not put this under Coronavirus topic, because it’s not. It’s politics. It’s a vast system designed by the government to siphon off money to make rich people richer.

The government has decided to allow Covid to be endemic. Fine. At that point, test and trace is irrelevant. What are they now doing every day that requires a continual workforce of consultants that is being paid an average daily rate of over £1,000?

Today, over 1,000 people will be paid over £1,000 a day to do the sun total of fuck all, as far as I can see. This is such a bonanza. I assume some MNers are among these people - or spouses - how can you justify this? Or is it a case of “I’ll have it if it’s available thanks.”

This is one of the biggest scandals of the pandemic and it’s continuing, and people don’t seem to care. AIBU to think this is utterly obscene?

I don't know what their purpose is. My son has just tested positive this morning. Within an hour they rang me, I couldn't hear the person then it cut off. An hour later they rang again, I spoke to her for a few minutes then it cut off again. An hour later teng again, finally I was able to speak to the person.
Had a pointless 30 minute phone call where he had to ask me questions about my 10 year olds employer and colleagues Confused
Took all of the close contact information. Then told me no one needs to isolate anyway because either double jabbed or under 18.what a waste of time Angry

LittleMG · 21/11/2021 17:12

When my mum had it she gave mine and my sisters details and we heard…. Nothing. Lucky we knew to isolate! Absolute waste of time and money.

TTP staff get paid a grand a day? Confused

Theunamedcat · 21/11/2021 17:14

They are cancelling it so it will be gone soon

WallaceinAnderland · 21/11/2021 17:15

They're aiming to stop it March 2022 because it is costing so much.

DavidSPumpkins · 21/11/2021 17:16

I’m in Scotland but tested positive around this time last year. They took 9 days to contact me. Since then I got a phone call in March asking if I needed support to isolate, and this week got a text reminding me to get my jab because “it’s now over 4 weeks since you tested positive”. Absolutely useless.

TTP staff get paid a grand a day?

Those spreadsheets don't design themselves!

BashfulClam · 21/11/2021 17:20

@DavidSPumpkins the Scottish one is run by the NHS and when my husband did it he made the equivalent of £20k a year. He did it for 6 months as he was unemployed. It’s a different system for this and not really relevant.

JumperandJacket · 21/11/2021 17:20

The person who rang us when DD had covid was an absolute half wit. Can’t imagine she was getting a grand a day.

SilverGlitterBaubles · 21/11/2021 17:21

YANBU OP, I would love to see an audit of where exactly this £37 BILLION has been spent. Yet more taxpayers cash being siphoned off to private companies no doubt with links to the Tory party.

It's not the call handlers that get this sort of money but senior 'consultants' employed on contracts for companies contracted by T&T

No, they might get charged out at a grand a day (which isn't massively expensive for a consultant). Unless they're contractors, they won't get paid by the hour/day and a large proportion of that grand will go to their employers while they will get a good - but not massive - salary.
BurntO · 21/11/2021 17:26

I blocked them and the council called me instead Confused

Blueeyedgirl21 · 21/11/2021 17:29

I blocked them and deleted the covid app

After they told a friend they had to legally speak with her 3 month old baby to tell him not to leave the house after testing positive to covid I couldn’t take them seriously

DrHildegardeLanstrom · 21/11/2021 17:29

Hopefully they will hand it back fully to us local public health experts (who should have been utilised properly in the first place).

FrasierCraneDay · 21/11/2021 17:33

Oh I had a complete fool ring me today, 3 times. I told him the first time I was working and to ring tomorrow when I have some spare time, those words clearly wouldn't register in the head of this idiot. On and on he went. He was told to piss off when he demanded to speak to dd 6 to ask where she had been. Utter shambles

HirplesWithHaggis · 21/11/2021 17:34

My nephew jacked in his wfh job with Test & Trace to work as a shelf stacker 4am to 11am, because of the abuse he received from people he called. For about a tenner an hour.

He might have stuck it for a grand! Grin

MrsTumbletap · 21/11/2021 17:37

They rang me when I was positive and asked to speak to my mum.

I'm 38 and my mum is dead. Hmm

They were a bit baffled as to why they had me logged as a child, they kept telling me over and over I was marked as under 18 on their 'system'. I couldn't do much else than tell them I am 38, "but we have you logged as a child". "Ok that's nice, I am still 38".

DooDahDah · 21/11/2021 17:42

I ended up blocking them . All 5 of us tested positive so I dutifully filled in the forms on line.

The first call too half an hour, and when he explained that he couldn't update everyone else on the same call, I said fine.

Then it began, each time we getting into a loop if as each of us being told by text to get a test...followed by a call! As I'd registered everyone to my phone, I was bombarded!

I was poorly, couldn't focus and felt harassed!

I just blocked in the end!

FrasierCraneDay · 21/11/2021 17:42

From speaking to friends and family it certainly seems they have deliberately recruited the complete morons of society to fulfil this "role" I bet the job centre staff are laughing now the queues of plebs are no longer

DobbyTheHouseElk · 21/11/2021 17:48

I had a really hard time getting a PCR test. Took TT 3x attempts when I gave up and booked a walk in, they wanted to help but I declined their help.

I dread to think how diabolical they’d be if I have tested positive.

authenticforgery · 21/11/2021 17:49

Ugh I just ended up blocking the number so it rejects immediately. When I looked I had 26 calls 🙄

LakieLady · 21/11/2021 17:51

Pmsl.

But it made me angry, too.

Not your average staff member ie the ones who work on the phones calling people to tell them to isolate. No, they're on an NHS salary, depending on their banding, 20 odd thousand to 30 odd thousand a year. In Scotland they are anyway. The OP means 'consultants' (I have no idea what their consultant post entails tbh) are on this obscene amount of money, £1000 a day.
PowerhouseOfTheCell · 21/11/2021 17:55

When I tested positive they spent 20 minutes telling me it was a legal requirement to give them my landline number. I don’t have one, so they suggested I order one for click and collect! Hmm
