To think this sentence is too short for what is effectively paedophilia?

Sorry for the Fail link, but 8 months for abusing a female student in her care? Really?!

If it was a male teacher I think it would have been a lot longer

Doubt it.

Rape and sexual abuse might as well be decriminalised, for all the good persecution does.
Isn’t conviction for abuse at an all time low?

Shade17 · 23/11/2021 13:00

Peadophilia involves pre-pubescent children, this appears to have involved a 15 year old. She’s not a paedophile.

MaryShelley1818 · 23/11/2021 13:06

YABVU to call someone having sexual contact with a 16yr old a paedophile.

YABVU to call someone having sexual contact with a 16yr old a paedophile.
She had admitted four counts of sexually touching a girl aged between 13 and 17

She's a paedophile.
She also abused her position of trust & authority, & tried to get the school to collude with her in a cover-up.

ChargingBuck · 23/11/2021 13:13

@Needaweekend - 8 months, plus a ruined career, plus not being able to show her face round her home town.

Tough shit.

A 35 year old, taking advantage of teenagers - it's revolting.

LouiseBelchersBunnyEars ,......... like Jeremy Forrest you mean ?

PrawnStars · 23/11/2021 13:16

She isn't a peadophile if you go by the actual proper definition of one

However that's splitting hairs really. What she has done is criminal and she's been punished for it

FlowersNoScent · 23/11/2021 13:17

YANBU. Pretty disgusting all around, as @ChargingBuck said. There's no excuse.

MaryShelley1818 · 23/11/2021 13:22

Yes the girl between 13-17 was 16

It was disgusting, it was abuse, absolutely abhorrent and she deserves the book thrown at her. But calling it Paedophilia when it is NOT, really insults real victims of Paedophilia, who are subject to a unique type of evil.

HarrietsChariot · 23/11/2021 13:24

It's not paedophilia because that refers to children before they reach puberty. It's still a sexual offence obviously but it's damaging to try to devalue terms like paedophilia by applying it to cases where it is not the case.

vivainsomnia · 23/11/2021 13:30

Exactly. He was called a paedophile over and over for his relationship with a 15yo. He got 3 years.

Well, we all know that's not true.

No it doesn't. I am one, I should know.
ChargingBuck · 23/11/2021 13:35

Feck! A victim, not a paedo btw, in case I've startled the horses there.

@HarrietsChariot, my personal paedophile abused & molested me between the ages of 12 - 16.

Do you reckon that when I hit 16, what they were doing to me was suddenly OK now?

Adults perving on teenagers is a fucking disgrace, anyone pleading otherwise can shove their legal definitions up their arse.

furbabymama87 · 23/11/2021 13:46

Not a paedophile. The girl was 15, not prepubescent and did not turn sexual until the girl was 16 which is the age of consent. She betrayed her position of trust and took advantage of this young girl so it's right she was jailed but no, not a paedophile. When I was 15, I could pass for 18 and had men in their 20s interested in me. They were not paedophiles because I did not resemble a child.

It was 12 years ago but when I was 15 I started a relationship with a teacher at his instigation and he never got a prison sentence, he got banned from the classroom.
