I'm away on holidays with two friends I've known online for some years. I'm from a different country than the two friends and one of them keeps on imitating my accent. She loves my accent so it's done in a very affectionate manner but it feels patronising and othering to me.
I feel like it's very much two plus one during this holiday even though I'd have been the connecting friend between the two prior to the holiday.
Maybe I'm just being touchy- I often feel left out in life- aibu to be bothered by the imitating? Any tips about how to gently stop her?

Just say “please stop imitating my accent, I find it hurtful”

She doesn't seem to worry about your feelings so don't worry about being truthful about yours!

Don't do it gently, just say. Can you stop doing that please I find it offensive. Or start mimicking her and see how she likes it.

Bet you're Irish. Grin
Some eejits can't help themselves.
Tell her to button it.

@maras2 or Scottish, people love to imitate us because we’re fabulous.

Santaischeckinglists · 18/11/2021 09:35

Isn't imitation the greatest form of flattery?

Bloodypunkrockers · 18/11/2021 09:37

I've had that

I just give a puzzled smile and ask "what are you speaking like that for"

santaischeckinglists Not much flattery in imitating my West Midland/Roscommon accent. Smile

I'm guessing you're Irish and shes English. Irrespective of what regional accent she has just do the same back to her but putting on a poncy "dahling" southern accent, she'll get the idea.
