Eggs Benedict, one egg or two?

Sundaymorningfiveninteen · 17/11/2021 19:47

I stayed in a beautiful high end hotel 270 pounds for the night for just me. Breakfast was included. I could choose from options such as a full English , kippers, eggs benedict , American pancakes with bacon and maple etc. I opted for eggs Benedict and was really surprised ( gutted) to be served one egg on one half of a muffin with all the other usual bits.
I wanted to ask for “the other half” of my breakfast but thought I would look either greedy or wrong.

Now watching Master chef and it’s reminded me of my meagre one egg Benedict, now I feel cheated all over again even though this was actually a few years ago. Grin

So Aibu to expect Eggs Benedict to be two eggs served on one split muffin. Or am I just greedy. Grin

YANBU, two is the standard, I'd be devastated with only one egg.

Quickchangeartiste · 17/11/2021 19:52

Seriously, if they advertised it as Eggs benedict, they needed to give you more than 1. I may have complained.

Wrenna · 17/11/2021 19:54

I just googled it to see what kind of images showed up and the majority of them show two on a plate. The exceptions were the more elaborate ones, with something like vegetables included or on the side or with special toppings - those had one. So I have to ask - was it traditional or “fancy”? If yes I suppose I would expect only one.

Wrenna · 17/11/2021 19:55

*if fancy

fourminutestosavetheworld · 17/11/2021 19:55

Outrageous. I'd have asked for the rest of it. Cheapskates.

IhateBoswell · 17/11/2021 19:55

Definitely not BU! I'd have been secretly livid 😂

Ledwood85 · 17/11/2021 19:55

As an EB fan, this is outrageous.

Two eggs on one split muffin is the norm. The clue is in the name... eggs - plural.

I would have complained, I have done before when I was given a stingy portion of smoked salmon on a smoked salmon bagel for a hotel breakfast... got a new one and a refund!

CeeceeBloomingdale · 17/11/2021 19:59

Write a review of the Egg (no s) Benedict on TripAdvisor to warn other EB fans. This can not be allowed to continue.

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 17/11/2021 19:59

oh definitely an egg per muffin half and how stingy to serve half a muffin....tightwads.

I hope you left a snippy review.

Zwellers · 17/11/2021 20:00

Most definitely should be two eggs. Would be horrified if only got one egg.

Sundaymorningfiveninteen · 17/11/2021 20:00

Ha, I knew I should have complained . It was good but it was a straightforward EB …muffin rocket ham egg sauce . Nothing fancy added. Even more gutted now. Grin

Honestly I would have asked for the other half

A man would have asked for the other half, without a moment’s shame. The worst they can say is no, but I bet they wouldn’t have.

ohidoliketobe · 17/11/2021 20:02

Definitely two, as it's Eggs plural.

Sundaymorningfiveninteen · 17/11/2021 20:02

@LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow …. I remember wondering what they would do with the other half of my muffin.

Definitely two. You was robbed.

SpeckledyHen · 17/11/2021 20:08

It’s EggS 🥚 🥚 Benedict on menus not egg 🥚.
Sorry OP, you were done!

LakieLady · 17/11/2021 20:13

I'd've asked where the rest of it was!

Cheeky fuckers.

FangsForTheMemory · 17/11/2021 20:15

I'd forgive them ONLY if it had genuine Hollandaise on it, cos there's an egg yolk in that.

MsFenellaFielding · 17/11/2021 20:19

I am sorry for your loss.

Question and query this travesty.

I ducking love eggs 💘

ErrolTheDragon · 17/11/2021 20:19

They should ask if you want one egg or two. One, with ham and the rich sauce would be enough for me - especially if the breakfast included other things and that was just the 'main course'. It's the half a muffin which strikes me as really mean.

catgirl1976 · 17/11/2021 20:19

It HAS to be two :( I would have been devastated. That is half a portion.

(I would also be devvo that it was ham not crispy streaky bacon but that's just me)

Was the sauce good at least? I love a proper Hollandaise. I buy jars and it's never as nice but it's very rare I can be faffed to make it.

Sundaymorningfiveninteen · 17/11/2021 20:22

@ fangs Genuine Hollandaise I’m sure. But I still don’t feel like forgiving them now. Wink

Definitely two, the clue is in the name, Eggs Benedict.

It wasn't Rudding Park was it? I went there for a spa day with brunch a few weeks ago and the brunch was, I think, one poached egg and a slice of avocado on a very small piece of sourdough toast. It was served on a side plate and it looked kind of lost in the middle of it.

I was starving and what I imagined was a hearty brunch was very disappointing I may have gone for a McDonalds on the way home.

itssquidstella · 17/11/2021 20:30

Definitely should have been two. Unless you're French, in which case one egg is an oeuf*.

*enough

I'll get my coat.

Brunch should be enough to constitute breakfast and lunch. That was a misnamed elevenses.
