To ask the going rate for cleaning/household help?

I'm in the North West if that makes a difference. General housework duties for an elderly widower. This has been a vague suggestion but I'd like to know about going rates before I give it any proper consideration. I'm on UC and not working at all at the moment, single parent and I'm not sure how it would affect the UC and if I'd be better or worse off.

I pay my cleaner €50 for 3 hrs so about €16.60 an hour. She cleans, tidys, does washing etc. I'm in Ireland though so may be vastly different where you are.

I'm in London and average rate for cleaner is £15ph

£15 to £20 per hour depending on how keen you are to keep them.

Also in the NW.
I pay my cleaners £15 but they bring own equipment, fully insured etc.
Self-employed without insurance/own products about £10 - £12. Cleaners from companies start at about £15.

Are you actually going to declare it as income?

Also what does general housework duties entail? Do you have specific tasks and set hours?

A household ‘manager’ is more expensive than a cleaner

Essex here and I pay £30 for as long as it takes, which seems to be about 2 hours 15 mins. She seems to stay a bit longer some weeks and go early other times according to the ring doorbell. No complaints as it always looks clean.

heartlikecrazypaving · 17/11/2021 17:26

Of course I would declare the income.
I'm not sure what he is wanting as it was a vague suggestion but I'm seeing him tomorrow and will ask more. I quite like the idea of helping him out and he only lives 5 minutes away. He's a lovely man and his wife was lovely too.

I've spoken to the gentleman and he'd like help with general cleaning and house clearing. He thinks it will take about 2 years to clear 🤣 It's a huge house full of things. He has said he will pay the going rate that agencies charge customers and add extra on top of that.
