3rd DC labour/induction stories please!

Posted in Pregnancy but posting here for traffic too.

Due to be induced with DC3 very soon. Dc1 (spontaneous at 41 weeks) and dc2 (induction at 38 weeks) were both quick labours ~2-3 hours.

I've heard a lot of different stories about third births being slower/trickier/unpredictable.

Has anyone got any stories to share? Especially if anyone was induced at 38 weeks or so. I'm dreading the idea of a long labour or being held hostage in hospital whilst dilation happens slowly and then there's no beds etc!

Does the age gap make any difference? Ie does a smaller age gap mean your body is more ready for labour as it did it not so long ago? Had my last DC 2 years ago!

Thanks in advance!

My third took the longest - sorry! I went in Wednesday morning and had him Friday afternoon. I was 41 weeks x

Idontbelieveit14 · 16/11/2021 21:09

But I did have a nearly 9 year age gap between him and my second x

@Idontbelieveit14 oh no! How were you induced?

2 years between each. Last one determined not be induced so spent a day on pilates rotating and using a breathing pump. Woke up, went to bathroom, waters went - full on contractions from get go. DC3 appear an hour later

Hankunamatata · 16/11/2021 21:47

Breathing- breast pump (for nipple.stimulation)

Stath · 16/11/2021 21:47

Second using a breast pump like @Hankunamatata mentioned.

It helped immensely with labour 3 and 4.

Was surprised how it went from 0 to full on labour pains in 5 mins. Travelling to hospital was not fun

Dc1 & Dc2 we’re spontaneous births before due date. Dc3 was induction due to placenta issues, ingrown etc. I was 39+ Weeks and started with pessary which did nothing. Labour was full and closed so left to see if anything would happen and monitored. Nothing happened so after demanding to leave after 4 days on the ward I was rushed down to the Labour suite to break my waters. I then had the drip, contractions began immediately and less than 20 minutes later Dc3 arrived. Dc2 was18 months & Dc1 2.5 (30 months) so close in age.

2-3 hrs????so a "long"labour would be like 4-6hrs for you then Shock

You'll be ok

Crunchymum · 16/11/2021 21:56

DC1 spontaneous Labour and born at 40+9 after a 50 hour labour
DC2 spontaneous Labour 40+1, 4 hour Labour
DC3 induction at 38w. Had one pessary, 22h of niggles and baby came after an hour of active Labour.

Good luck Flowers

Crunchymum · 16/11/2021 21:58

2 year gap between DC1 and DC2. 3 year gap between DC2 and DC3.

Pricklypear12 · 16/11/2021 23:06

@Hankunamatata and @Stath how far along were you when you started using the breast pump? I still breastfeed my 2 year old a few times a day

I’ve tandem fed throughout a couple of pregnancies but the last one I started with a stop/start labour. Pains would start then fade over a few hours and it went in for days.
I ended up being so pissed off that I made a concerted effort to sit on a yoga ball and pump to a schedule I’d been advised to follow to ‘get things moving’.
I was about 39 weeks and it helped develop the contractions into more regular and productive ones.
