It makes me cry so much, it’s just an amazing piece of music.

It's my favourite classical piece. There's a busker in Leeds called Kate who plays it perfectly, she is incredible.

Anystarinthesky · 14/11/2021 20:42

I love it too.

CinnamonJellyBeans · 14/11/2021 20:42

I like it, but it doesn't set me off. Much prefer some of his other works.

Gatekeeper · 14/11/2021 20:44

it is wonderful...even just thinking about it now has made the hairs stand up on the neck of my neck and ripples have gone over my scalp

this piece also lovely...wish I could play the violin piano/flute/harp

Blanca87 · 14/11/2021 20:45

It’s just Devine. ❤️

bestcattoyintheworld · 14/11/2021 20:54

I love his English Folk Song Suite.

ThinWomansBrain · 14/11/2021 20:56

Love it, often listen to it on repeat.
One of my favourite versions is Nicola Benedetti playing it af last years Last Night of the Proms last year,

On you tube, there's a clip of Geoffrey Palmer reading "Adlestrop" with The Lark Ascending playing in the backgound - excellent mix.

PuppyMonkey · 14/11/2021 21:40

It’s epic.

Got to disagree. I can't bloody stand it and I'm playing it (again in the orchestra) in 3 weeks. Not a massive RVW fan but I do like his Concerto Grosso.

There are so many other fantastic pieces of music out there. People go mad for Elgar's cello concerto but I think Dvorak's is way better.

My hair on the back of the neck pieces include Richard Strauss' Four Last Songs, especially Beim Schlafengehen and Beethoven's 7th symphony.

sbhydrogen · 14/11/2021 21:53

It moves me, absolutely, but not to the same extent as the Ashoken Farewell. Makes me year up just thinking about it.

FatCottonBuds · 14/11/2021 21:58

Im with @Malbecfan, it does nothing for me

Cocomarine · 14/11/2021 22:12

Meh. Doesn’t compare to looking at the Sistine Chapel.

TheKeatingFive · 14/11/2021 22:13

Doesn’t compare to looking at the Sistine Chapel.

😂

Bouncebacker · 14/11/2021 22:20

It’s perfect - it’s so evocative of an actual sky lark - the flight pattern, and makes me feel like I’m right there in a field at midsummer. It also makes me weep as played this year at the funeral of a dear dear friend

ErrolTheDragon · 14/11/2021 22:21

I love it, but it doesn't make me cry. I don't think it's 'deep' but it shouldn't be - the clue is in the name.Smile

wellingtonbooots · 14/11/2021 22:24

Really divides opinion in this house. DH agrees with you OP. Whereas I call it the bastard bird.

Clawdy · 14/11/2021 22:32

The first time I heard it I couldn't believe how much it sounded like a real bird call. I could never tire of hearing it. So beautiful.

I'm with you...can't stand how it wins classic FM hall of fame all the time!!!
Motherhubbardscupboard · 14/11/2021 22:36

Beethoven 7 for me too. Lark Ascending isn't my favourite VW, Dives and Lazarus beats it

ShatnersWig · 14/11/2021 22:36

Another who finds it vastly overrated. Much prefer the Fantasia on a theme of Thomas Tallis when it comes to Vaughan Williams.

fluffynotebook · 14/11/2021 22:38

I love it too ❤️

MartyHart · 14/11/2021 22:39

I find it a bit dull to be honest, I'm a lover of the Baroque though.
Prefer Bach or Vivaldi.

Allaboutyou222 · 14/11/2021 22:40

I love it. My MIL used to play it and it’s loaded with nostalgia for me. Definitely makes me cry.

PuppyMonkey · 15/11/2021 09:07

The bastard bird. Grin

Funny how some are unmoved by it, I wonder what it is that makes me so emotional when I hear it. I have no particular affinity with larks.Grin

l like it, but the RL song of a skylark knocks into a cocked hat imo.
