SIL told us she signed up to a site which sends her items to review (and keep). Items she has received include:

  1. Nespresso Vertuo Machine with a box of capsules
  2. Jabra wireless earbuds

She almost got a tumble dryer but as she lives with her mum who already has a tumble dryer, she didn't get it..why would anyone give a tumble dryer for free to a random consumer.

DH thinks it's a scam and they might charge you for the products if you don't send it back. AIBU. It's a bit worrying as SIL has no job so if there are any charges, her mum would be paying and she doesn't have the highest income, DH might feel obliged to step in...

Have you googled the name of the website? Sending free items for review is a thing, but there’s no way we can tell you if it’s a scam as we don’t have enough info to help I’m afraid.

@ikeepseeingit I don't know the name of the site I am afraid. But is it normal that the reviewer can keep such items for free?

Well Mumsnet does the same op- they often have items to review and test (and then keep)

I remember a few years ago there was a car? (Skoda?) which was given to 5 or 6 mumsnetters in return for extensive reviews

It is something that happens, I know a few people who did a lot of reviews for free products. However, a lot of selling websites have clamped down on it and are blocking people they think are doing it. But your SIL should be fine. She might lose her amazon account (or similar) though...

I had a top of the range phone to review from MNet a ears ago
I regularly get stuff from Ocado too. Most recently was a £50 bottle of whiskey but in the past I’ve also had a £150 electric, app controlled toothbrush.
